Thanks. It says age 2+ so we are good so long as his royal highness

starts cooperating. I should not pick on him...he is doing better every day.

Thanks. My feeling is our goal is to charm him into it over time before

he is 3. By then, if we can get him into it we'd then invest in it as

we'd no longer have the benefit of it for free. The commitment sounds

worthwhile.

We have been using The Listening Program for just over a year now with great

benefits.... so great that I'm afraid to give it up. My son's auditory

processing is now normal. There is a new TLP program out there now with bone

conduction that works even better. The entire cost is about $1500 but if you

already have The Listening Program you can just buy the specialized headphones

for $900. I am seriously considering it since my son's ear health is so

flip-floppy and when it is good, he is sooooo much better. The initial $550 I

spent for the Classical TLP has been worth every dime and I am going to save the

cd's in case any of my loved ones (or myself) every suffer from stroke! (that

is how much I love it). I believe it has been an essential component to my

child's current 'wellness'.

I think since he is young I'll work with TLP until he is 3 and it is no

longer free. Then buy it and a little later on look into the rest.

Thanks for the info. Your experience is so beneficial. I just wish you

had not had to go through it all. I am so looking forward to seeing

where Mark is headed next.

Liz,

Where do you get it for free? My son is 2.7 today and I think, based on

testimony from this board, my son would benefit greatly from it. $1500+$900 is a

big financial commitment, so I would rather try it out first before spending the

dollars.

Thanks,

I just wanted to clarrify my other post re bone conduction TLP which is very

very pricey at about $1,500. We used the original program which costs about

$550 with great success.

f you already have TLP and want the specialized headphones for bone conduction,

they cost about $900. Thus you can just add the earphones to the TLP you

already own.

There was a gal at the seminar who has upgraded to TLP Level 1 and has a classic

version that she is willing to sell. I gave her the address of this group

as well as my email address. If she contacts me with a price, I will post it on

to the board.

At the seminar on bone conduction this weekend, Bob Doman got up and said that

they are continuously searching for headphones that are cheaper for the families

that still work! So, perhaps in time he will find them and the bone conduction

element will be cheaper. You will see faster results with the bone conduction

but will get good results anyway with the regular TLP delivery method. We did!

I had heard $1,500 as well and that was from the people who produce it. I think

that $4000 is a rip-off. Em, if you choose to upgrade, you can purchase the

bone conduction headphones separately for about $900. I have chosen not to as

we have Mark's ears under control but if we ever had a severe illness or severe

regression of some type, I would upgrade in a second.

Janice

[sPAM] [ ] The Listening Program

I know someone wrote inquiring about this a short time ago. My

daughter used this program (classic version) two years ago. I thought

it was worthwhile, and I do believe it improved her listening skills.

When the new " bone conduction " technology came out, I called our SLP

to inquire. She said that the company was promoting it, and she

thought it was a good program that would produce " deeper " results in a

shorter period of time. She said that the classic program, and a

program called Level One, were also still being marketed, and that

children were continuing to get positive results from those programs.

The " bone conduction " was $1500. I decided against it, only because

my daughter had already been through the classic program twice (and I

have the CDs in case I want her to do it again). I just wasn't sure I

would get more/better results. I believe the person writing said that

the program was almost $4000 in their area -- so maybe $1500 is a

great deal!

Actually, what the SLP had suggested was purchasing some of the

individual CDs to go along with the classic set, and developing an

" individualized " program " -- I think she mentioned the speech-language

CD, the sensory CD and some high spectrum CDs. That would only run a

couple of hundred. I have thought about doing that. However, I think

that she was suggesting that the Classic would then be more like the

new Level One Kit -- not the bone conduction.

Thanks for the information on the separate headphones, though. I

didn't know that.

It is difficult knowing what to do. (Deeper and faster sounds better

-- though I think most of their research that shows great results

involved the Classic program. Bone conduction, I think, is very new.

The person we use does it a lot, and she says she has only had three

people try the bone conduction. (I did a web search and couldn't find

a lot of research results on it -- though it does now come on an ipod!)

It was me. I thought $4000 was a rip off too. The person charging

that amount is not a therapist. I have come to the conclusion that

she is more of a distributor. She has an autistic daughter who has

been " awakened " by this technique. Anyway, I went to the advanced

brain site and I couldn't find the program for individual sale. The

site directed me to find a provider. So, I'm looking to see if I can

find one that will offer the program for a more reasonable price.

While I don't have $1,500 just lying around... I think I could

rationalize spending that much as opposed to the $4000.

We got wonderful results just using the classic version. It may have taken

longer but it did do the job! (I ain't never letting go of my Listening

Program!) When I went to the seminar on it at NACD, they indicated that they

were continuing to search for headphones that would provide the bone conduction

technology (that would work) at a cheaper cost.... so the price may come down

yet!

I actually purchased mine prior to going to NACD at

http://www.biof.com/onlinestore/listeninglevelonekit.asp from New York and they

shipped it out to Canada for me. I had to buy an extra 'training' session with

a phsychologist which was done over the phone for an extra $125.00. I wanted

the program so I did my little appointment and paid the money....

What I don't see on the site today is.... the new updated technology with the

bone conduction headphones but I remember that the gentleman I dealt with at

Allied Products and being very nice and accomodating. I am sure that he will be

able to get the most updated product for you should you desire it. I would

definately go for Module 1 rather than the classic version (with the bone

conduction headphones if you can afford it).

I would call and ask rather just ordering on-line.

p.s. for anyone who doesn't want to apply the Listening Therapy

themselves...I'm currently taking my 6 yr old to Listening Therapy in

Not sure that's accurate, . Out of the group of people here that

have tried auditory programs, many have used " The Listening Program " ,

which was actually developed by Doman. (Bob Doman is the man

who founded the NACD. Glenn Doman is the guy who wrote a lot books and

founded the Institutes in Philly. They are all related, but have

different organizations/companies.) It is routinely used around my

area (central NJ) by OT's and SLP's, mostly in private therapy groups,

although the public school may use it as well, too. (We attend

elsewhere.) It's primary attraction (besides effectiveness) is that is

home-based, easy, passive, and inexpensive while incorporating the work

of Tomatis. The instruction book provides all of the information

needed to successful use TLP, although it works even better in

conjunction with other activities like deep pressure and digit spans.

The NACD customizes small " p " programs for individuals that include

listening activities, but that is different than the capital " P " " The

Listening Program " . NACD is not actually connected to TLP, and it can

be done without using NACD for other program activities.
