Guest guest
My understanding is that a 504 plan is an educational plan that is arrived at due to a medical issue or disability - where as a IEP is an educational plan due to a learning disability or issue. Guest guest
Hi, adding to what Tracey said, a 504 Plan can set up accommodations and/or modifications the student needs, due to their disability (e.g. OCD), to help them succeed. (Disability is causing problems with learning, education, etc.) If a student also needs special education services due to disability, then they can try to qualify for the IEP, where the " accomm/modifications " could also be included in the IEP. Some schools prefer to use the 504 Plan if special ed services aren't needed, other schools may go straight to the IEP just due to the disability. With my son , the school preferred a 504 Plan since he didn't need any special ed services. (He did have an IEP prior to that when he was in speech therapy but he graduated from speech.) Hope that wasn't confusing, >
