Guest guest
I'm looking for advise for 1 year old cat. Our clinic got Slick 7/2009 with brachial paralysis. He had muscle atrophy starting below R shoulder, deep pain present only below elbow 1 in on lateral and 1,5 in medial side, and huge edema and lacerations on R carpus.I adopted him. Now Slick has deep pain sensation present everywhere but his motor function is not back. He walks with the dorsal surface of carpus and digits resting on the ground. He wears splints during the day to protect his skin and tissue from the tile floor and during the night splint is off so his skin can breathe. He is on Neuroplex and Neurotrophin PMG. I used laser treatment in first couple months to help healing, now I use it if his dorsal side of carpus gets edema. His foot is bathed daily with chlorhexiderm shampoo. His nails are trimmed if needed. I was hoping for better improvement but I think this is it. Slick plays, runs, diggs, catches using this leg. The question is Do I have to amputate this leg? Is this the only solution for him? I was told that he will be better with only 3 legs? That he is very uncomfortable now. I'm struggling.... He will be inside cat only but he will have only tile. Having three legs only can his joints survive the pounding against the tile all his live? Do I really turture him trying to save this leg? He looks happy and pain free to me. I set up appointment with surgical specialist to help me make this decision. I would like to get your advise as well. Please help...
