Guest guest
Blood tests for sodium do not reveal how much sodium you're ingesting. You need urine Na. Where were your aldosterone and renin (with normal bands)? Perhaps Dr. Grim will chime in with pregnancy and meds information. What does your doc say? Have you looked up the pregnancy information on each drug? Val From: hyperaldosteronism [mailto:hyperaldosteronism ] On Behalf Of paddler2530 Hi all,I am 31 years old, and I was recently dx-ed with hyperaldosteronism. No mass was found, but one of my adrenals was described as " enlarged. " I'm currently on 150mg of Spironolactone and amlodipine. My BP is well-controlled with that. When my labs were done (pre-meds), my salt was within normal range, and my K was low. My BP was in the 220/110 range daily. Two questions: I'm recently married, and we are talking of trying for kids soon. How is this condition treated for pregnant women? 2nd question: Since starting these meds, I crave salty things like crazy. Pickles, olives... have even sipped olive juice. Is this normal? I thought it would go away after a few weeks of adjustment to the Spiro, but it has stayed 2 months. Thanks for your input!G
Guest guest
Pickles and olives may be you are craving potassium and magnesium - not the salt. Salt is "pleasing" to the palate, so maybe that's why you lean toward those things. I think nearly all of us on the spiro still have to supplement with K. Guest guest
We have several here who have had PA AND preg problems. I would delay pg until dx is clear and Bp and M are under excellent control. Give us your complete storyMay your pressure be low!CE Grim MS, MDSpecializing in DifficultHypertension Blood tests for sodium do not reveal how much sodium you're ingesting. You need urine Na.
