Guest guest
Jenn, I think is just saying that a structured way of eating is a good idea, whatever that structure takes. I don't think that she means that everyone has to eat exactly 3 meals/day like she does. Is that what you meant? I eat 4 small meals/day, and I've been doing this for the past 8 months and it works very well for me. For you, it may be that in order to eat only 8/10's full ( " Hari Hachi Bu " ) at meals, you need to also eat a snack in between meals. Personally, I reach the " Hari Hachi Bu " state by counting calories, which I'm not suggesting is for everyone, and I don't think it's advocated by IOWL. (However, she does say that some people do need eating plans; I am one of those people--my own eating plan.) My personality is of someone who needs to know the math. I need to know that I am creating the 500 calorie deficit/day, so that I will lose 1 pound/week. I enjoy counting calories so much that I have made a chart that has the calories per ounce of every food that I eat and I can calculate any meal I eat within two minutes flat. :-) BTW, I was a little disturbed by the last episode Episode #58, How to Eat, Part II. Don't get me wrong, I am extremely thankful for and IOWL. In fact, is the best thing that has happened to me weight loss/mental health wise; I call her the " therapist in my pocket " (my iPod), however, the most recent episode got me extremely annoyed. The question on Episode 58, How to Eat, Part II, in which asks, " How do you lose weight if you're trying to match calories in with calories out? Won't your body seek the status quo? " responds by saying that he is correct that " if your body is matching calories in with calories out as a naturally slender person does, then, yes, indeed, you will maintain your weight " that it's " basic physics " . Her response was that in order to lose weight instead " we do it really, ultimately, through intention, through directiong our bodies to use first the stored energy that's available before bringing us hunger. " And she mentions that one of her guilded journey's, the " appetite adjuster " helps with that. I started to think that this is a flaw in the IOWL concept. But I have since made peace with it, because I know that I don't get extremely hungry even though I'm undereating by 500 calories/day, so my body is obviously digging into my fat stores and I'm not starving. I get hungry before meals, but the hunger is not so intense that I can't make good decisions at my next meal. So, maybe she has something with the idea of " intention " . I know she's been right on target with everything else and has made my weight los journey very peaceful and freeing. I am eagering awaiting Episode 59. I've been checking ITunes several times/day since Thursday. It feels a bit like I reached the end of a book, but I have only listened once to each episode, so I can go back now and revisit. I must say I'm a bit confused by the latest 2 episodes on how many meals to eat. I don't think I can eat " Hari Hachi Bu " at breakfast and be at a number 2 on the hunger scale by noon without a snack in between. This has thrown my thinking way out of whack now that I am learning to trust my instincts more. I'm feeling very confused by the new advice.
