They blame it more on stress/depression/anxiety than anything (the HTN that is). Lifestyle a very close second. But some of us on here would be defensive at ANY talk about lifestyle and see it as they're blaming it on that if even mentioned. I was one of those on 5 meds at once, at 180/140, as I sat in the cardiologists office and he started spiro and in 2 doses I was now 120/80. This was after 5 + years of hospitalizations, office visits, 20ish ER trips for low K and HTN, etc, so we know the drill.

BUT....I needed to cut back on Pepsi, I should have been on a low salt diet no matter what and I wasn't, I could have exercised more - until my K got so chronically bad, I could have centered better in my religion and been a better father and husband. So I don't care if someone tells me that. They're right - doesn't mean I CAN do all that. But with the docs I get it that some ONLY focus on that especially if your a smoker or obese. That's wrong, I would never defend that.

But also I can't deny that we know that certain diets are healthy, that losing weight (in a healthy way ) helps a busload of issues and can in some cases save lives, that people tend to breath better when they don't smoke, that exercise helps the immune system, the endocrine system, the you-name-it systems, and so on. It's in the approach I guess and I have family that will be offended somehow someway if you said there shoes looked nice. So it's a dual responsibility.

I just get frustrated as the constant attacking the docs as if they are only rich villians who don't care about anything - I realize it is "in" to attack the rich today - even the movie stars sitting at occupy - and no one says a word about the Hummer pulling up so long as the rapper hates the rich excluding himself.

But as to docs, Most care, most are decent, even if flawed. And I am vocal and don't defend the idiots who are rude, who don't care, and who treat patients like crap - they'll get theirs one day.. But as patients often we act like our life is in perfect order 100%, or justify our bad habits, and that we are only victims, and since they make all the money they have to fix something now. We are victims to some degree, especially in this PA arena, but not ONLY victims. Maybe we find a common thread one day that we were doing something that messed up our adrenals.

So.... There's good docs out there and some good stories on here too - let's get them better at finding PA it like my NP - who I work with now and who I think has a new case of it. She looks for Conn's all the time now because of me.

But the bad path to now was OUR case. How many got treated right quickly and are NOT on this list? My guess is not many but if they are a few than good. Not all the rich doctors are evil.

But we can create a list on bad docs, and another that some of us could talk about the patients.........the street goes two ways. Don't hate. Fix it. Get mad, but don't hate someone who has something we don't or see them that way because we hate the rich. If so we are just as guilty.

this is the exact problem I am having. Doctors try and diagnose symptoms to organs . The body is one organism and I think when one organ goes awry the whole body is affected. This is why they call it practicing medicine I think. Phyllis Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry

You actually have symptoms of a lot more than those three. So it in theory could be one of them, all three (odds the least likely by far) or none of them. Just sayin......

It is not about hating the 'rich', after all doctors aren't rich

anymore unless they are doctors to the celebrities.

Ironic as it sounds this may be the problem, with doctors making

less money, working more hours and higher insurance rates , etc. I

am not sure the most 'intelligent'

people are going into medicine these days.

You have been a PA for a number of years, I know you have seen

the quality of interns and residents decline. For example today, I

asked an intern to look at a patient. It

was 1555. He told me he was off duty at 1600 and to ask the next

shift. 20 years ago you would have never, ever, heard of this,

I am not doctor-bashing, God knows pts. comes with their share of

problems and noncompliance. But i still think there are some things

that shouldn't be overlooked.

I don't care if a person weighs 400 lbs, smokes 2 ppd and sits for

23 hours a day., If a person needs 6 bp pills to maintain a BP of

180/100 common sense should tell you something

else is wrong. One doc in the ER was onto something when he

suggested I might have a pheocrytoma (sp). I asked my doctor about

it he said 'you don't have a tumor just lose weight". I said ok, I

lost 80 lbs in 7 months, Bp stayed the same/ went higher, he said

well 'lose some more'.

I still think it was easier for my doc to give me another pill than

to try and find out what was wrong. Some ppl love pills, I

absolutely hate them. I see both sides, I am not giving myself a

pass for the extra weight and not giving my medical professional a

pass for not trying harder.

Hopefully PA can become what women and heart disease awareness is

today. Until then I am afraid that most ppl with this disease is

doomed.
