As a possibility, the peroneus longus tendon could be loose and slipping out of the sulcus at the lateral malleolus causing that "catch" in the hock. But, it would not account for the referring vet noting a reduced ROM in the hip. Decreased extension could be a tight iliopsoas muscle.
