Guest guest
grace, I have to agree that the tics are not as bad as OCD. My son is taking Clonidine for tics and we increased his dose. But, his doctors office called today and said that the Clonidine won't help the OCD and we have to make an appointment with a child psychiatrist that they recommended. We have already been through ADHD, and Tourette's, now we are having to deal with OCD this year. My son is 13 and from what I've read on this site is the fact that his body in changing due to puberty. So. I hope that the new doctor can help him. I wish you luck with the tics and Ocd in your child. I took my son to a child neurologist in Atlanta, ga who is also a Tourette's specialist. He is the one who recommended that I take my son to a child psychiatrist. I talked to the therapist the other day to find out if she treats OCd. and she said that she could help him. I won't know until we go, and see what all he has to do. I just dread a new medication. I was told by the nurse practictioner in my son's doctor's office that he may need a child psychiatrist for medicationa and a psychologist for CBT. So, I will start with the one they recommended. Good luck with everything. Vickie Subject: Re: Nervous habits To: Date: Wednesday, January 7, 2009, 1:25 AM Does anyone else find that the tics are no big concern in comparison to the OCD? We've had the chewed up clothes, licking lips, throat clearing, vocal repetitions, shoulder shrugging, picking, tapping, (among 3 kids with OCD) but tics are not all that noticeable (unless one is in a quiet still place like a church pew) and don't seem to bother the affected person too much (except for the picking which can cause marks) so not addressed, b/c OCD seems to be the more disabling factor. Is there any reason to pursue treatment for tics if the OCD is the primary dx? Will tic treatment or meds help the OCD? nancy grace > > > > My 9 yr old son always seems to have a nervous habit. Guest guest
Good luck to you too. We have been referred for neurology work-ups before, but I did not follow through (18 mo waits?) b/c I just didn't think anything would come of it, maybe a neurological label, but it does not change symptoms. So therapy, and if that's not working, psychiatry (for medication, or to back you up with the school) might be the way to go. nancy grace > > > > > > My 9 yr old son always seems to have a nervous habit.
