Hey Barb,

This might sound crazy, but I find that the breathing that comes with

moderately hard exercise relaxing... Such as running or swimming (and

biking)... You get into a rhythmn or " swing " and it's very good for my

mind/body connection (throw in adrenalin and WHOA!! I'm a happy camper)

Hi Everyone,

I am new to the group & would like to ask your opinion/advice. I've always

wanted to " learn " to meditate, but have never had any success. I like yoga

class, but the " mind " connection isn't really there, especially at the end

during the relaxation pose. I definitely have adhd & quieting my mind is

about the last thing I can do, but probably the thing I need the most. Has

anyone had luck with the free meditation program offered on the podcast?

, if you are reading this, can you or anyone else tell me if it will

work for someone like me who has never been able to relax or follow guided

meditation.

hello all. i am new, i just started listening to IOWL a couple of weeks ago, i

have made it to #5. so far so good.

although i have been dieting for probably 3 years (off and on) i cant seem to

loose the 25lbs i want to, and keep it off. my biggest problem-if i had to

choose, would be lately i have sugar craving that i just cant resist. i heard

on podcast #5 that sugar cravings will go away in 3 days, and i am going to

start now to try to get these cravings under control. all of renees techniques

are new to me, and i am working hard to put them to good use. i enjoy everyones

comments, and look forward to going on this journey with everyone.

Thank you, Corinna! I agree, exercise works wonders & I'm a complete basket

case if I don't get some everyday! I've been a runner & a cycling instructor

for many years. I've always thought of exercise as a chemical addiction, but a

really good one :) Sounds like you feel the same, do your work out every day?

the sugar craving are actually going really good.  i heard on one of the

episodes ( i cant remember which one) that it will take 3 days to get rid of the

intense sugar cravings. so i am holding on to that.  hope things get easier-for

both of us!!

Honestly, the only thing that has ever worked for me in getting the sugar

monster under control is complete abstinence for a short period. That includes

monitoring *all* carb intake, as well, since all carbs are basically sugar when

they're digested. Like had done when she lost her weight, I'll follow the

OA 'gray sheet' diet (no sugar, no flour) and avoid starchy vegetables, and I

feel great.

Sometimes it's easier said than done, even though I know eating that way makes

me feel fantastic. <blah>

Since I stopped dieting a year ago I no longer tell myself to avoid any one food

group. (Because that will be the one food group I fantasize constantly about!)

So my trick now is to make sure I eat protein at every meal and fill up with as

many veggies as possible (and, yes, I use real butter and full-fat salad

dressing on them). If I want something sweet later, I'll occasionally have a

small piece of very dark chocolate, but not until after I've abstained from all

sugar and flour for 2 weeks.

After that 2 week period, I have lost the craving for sugar and I find that

fruit tastes like candy.

We all gotta find our own way, but that usually does the trick for me.
