I been on spiro since 2006. I also have diabetes in the background now. Dr. GRim is this caused by conns?? I am the lady who saw 14 endos in Sacramento with no luck what so ever. Guest guest
I'm surprise that Spiro just " stopped working " after 5 years! (Is that something I have to look forward to?) Begs the question, How's your Salt(NA) as reported by a Urine test? (The answer to this may have a large bearing on how mich Inspra you will need!) If PA is not well controlled it often affect glucose control! - 64 yo morb. ob. male - 12mm X 13mm rt. a.adnoma with previous rt. flank & testicle pain. Guest guest
I been on spiro since 2006,When you told me what i had. Labs proved it later. I have nodes on my adrenals, the right has a 1.7 x 1.2 cm getting bigger slowly with time, the left is smaler and remains unchanged. I had AVS in 2006 which was a disaster with no results. Sprio the other brand quit working after about 2 1/2 years. This is my 3rd brand switch on spiro now i am asking for name brand with Pfizer. Since there are only 2 meds on earth for this. Brand name Spiro is my back up plan if Inspra does not work out. This is my second try with inspra as well. Guest guest
Was hoping would jump in here but he's probably snuggling that new little one! MCB is Mineralocorticoid Receptor Blocker (Spironlactone & Epleronone are the only two I believe and are used to treat PA). Outsalting is the term we use when one is consuming too much salt (NA) in their diet. In this condition the MCB will NOT work. There are many sources of sodium so one should always read the label (1500 is the magic number we look for!) A Urine test for NA will tell how you are doing. - 64 yo morb. ob. male - 12mm X 13mm rt. a.adnoma with previous rt. flank & testicle pain. Guest guest
Oh I know all that. I dont eat food out of boxes all that stuff is bad. Everything I eat is made from scratch except for a few things. Like whole wheat bread and canned no salt whole tomatoe, or tuna. I dont eat processed food. Never have. I grow vegetables. I have had a salt problem for 20 years. Saw 10 endos they were killing me slowly what a bunch of losers. I found dr. Grim he knew what was wrong with me in a instant he saved my life. been on spiro since 2006 I know exactly how much salt i consume. If I dont watch it I will be so sick with head aces and more. I am the sodium police. But I will do a spot urine sodium test next time I am at the dr. office. The problem was I just get used to spiro switch brands and every thing goes back to normal. This time I switched to Inspra and so far so good since I doubled it up, I seem to need 200mg Inspra and feeling better again. Thanks for the input ita > > > > > > > > > > > Hi Dr Grim > > > > > > What is the ratio of inspra compared to spiro?. Guest guest
Be sure and read the labels on bread (even " healthy whole grain " stuff is often a salt bomb) and canned tuna. I was surprised to find that a serving - which is only *half* a can - has 250mg sodium. > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi Dr Grim > > > > > > > What is the ratio of inspra compared to spiro?. Guest guest
I guess we need to take a step backwards and come to a common understanding. You say " after 2 1/2 years spiro was no longer working " . How did you determine this? BP? Other symptoms like pain, weakness, frequent peeing, etc. Testing results? All meds you are on? In other words, we need your complete story! You say you had an AVS in 2006 that " was a disaster with no result " . Does that mean they botched the test and was unsuccessful administering it? Were the results inconclusive? Usually you get a report and Dr. Grim can tell you real quick if it was successful! You indicate the node in your right adrenal is getting bigger. How did they determine this and what is the rate of growth? The reason I ask all this is because I have lived the story. I started on Spiro and BP corrected immediately. It then took over 10 months to get NA low enough to eliminate the associated pain and frequent peeing. I didn't understand that NA had to be tested in Urine so I was watching blood tests! (I swore up and down I was " low salt " but the body said NO!) If you come at us with that kind of info someone will have an answer! - 64 yo morb. ob. male - 12mm X 13mm rt. a.adnoma with previous rt. flank & testicle pain. Guest guest
Depending on brand bread can have 100 to 200 MG sodium of per slice If you make a tuna sandwitch you most likey add mayo to the tuna so that adds 100 mg sodium. What do you drink with it even water has some sodium in it Some places water can have 100 MG sodium. So tuna lunch can add 850 MG sodium. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi Dr Grim > > > > > > > > What is the ratio of inspra compared to spiro?. Guest guest
LOL there are no leagues here. There really are no experts on this just #1 dr. Grim. No one in north calif or Sacramento, or UC of knows nothing.Even some creap dr. in san francisco who studied with dr. grim would not give me the time of day or a appointment. I was seen by 9 endos and was croking off, one more week and I would have been in a wheel chair. Then dr. Grim sent me a limb and pulled me out of the swamp from this news group. He is a amazing person. It was a miracle to finely meet an Endo with smarts. I picked out my medications from his drug list after I researched them as to what I needed besids spiro. I do have a PNP that prescribs all my meds for me. I have a endo down at UC in sac but he is so in the dark and refused to call dr. GRim and learn a few things. HE is good for my yearly cat scan and labs every 4 months. So how long have you been suffering and what is taking half the spiro? Do tell? Guest guest
Let me start with the Spiro question. I was taking ALL the Spiro, all 25mg bid which is the same dose I am on today! I had a very specific pain in my right flank that radiated to my right testis. I was on Narcotics to try and contain this pain. When I started Spiro my BP dropped into the 115ish/65ish range but the pain and frequent peeing continued (This was July 2010.) They had found a 12x13mm adnoma in my right adrenal and I was convinced it was the root of my pain issue. Fast forward to Feb. this year and I found this site. Dr. Grim assured me Meds and DASH often accomplishes the same as removal but I wasn't convinced so I continued to " press on " toward surgery. I was titrating off 7 BP meds and meeting with a surgeon, actually he had just given me a green light, when on Apr. 23d the pain suddenly went away! Peeing every hour or two during the day went to every 5-6 hours! Peeing at night went from 3-4 times a night to zero in 8 or more hours! I now sleep, uninterrupted, 8 or more hours a night and the list goes on! That is when I learned the term " outsalting Spiro. " , that is what Dr. G. told me when I asked " if Spiro had a second gear " . That flank pain will start to return if I misbehave and have too much NA! I know then I need to watch my salt! That is where I was wondering if you might be, right on the edge of outsalting the MCB you are on. msmith and I discussed salt sensitivity and Dr. G. says everybody is salt sensitive. I know we use 1500 as a goal for low salt but I don't believe that is a 'ONE SIZE FITS ALL " ! I think we have to each find our own magic number - some have to pee into a bottle and I am " Lucky " to have my own built-in indicator, my flank pain. I didn't want to try DXing your case because I don't know anything about thyroid issues, not that I couldn't research it a little, but I felt Dr. Grim could address it much much better! I have done alot of researching of my specifics in the last 6 months. Being retired with 27 years in computers is an advantage for that. My story up to this spring is in our files under 's Story or something like that if you want all the " gory detail " ! (I still have to update some of the lstest progress.) - 64 yo morb. ob. male - 12mm X 13mm rt. a.adnoma with previous rt. flank & testicle pain. Guest guest
AVS was 5 years ago. My bp now is 114/67 with a pulse of 63 after sitting for 5 minutes. I dont know why i wrote wrong bp last nite. I am feeling much better since i doubled up the Inspra I am takeing 400mg inspra,100 atenolol,5 mg benexpril. I can feel the inspra working, sending the tide back. I took not enough for 3 weeks. Spiro quit working on swelling and then i would take more and get low bp. I am wondering since Inspra might work better for me, I wont need atenolol or as much. But every time i lay of antenolo i get my 102 pulse back. I am going to taper down a little. Then the benazpril I only take 5mg for the tight chest. The rapid heart beat was the first weard symptom that started back in 2004. Now about they thyroid I used to take T3 but it would agravate my condition befor i knew i had conn's. I know take synthroid T4. Any way thyroid meds send my adrenals in a over active state very easly. I have to be blocked real good. When I had my adrenals surpressed with cortif I could take thyroid medicine with no side effects what so ever. But I was not adrenal insufficient just because the aldo gave me a very dark tan, I was thought to have addisons.but didnt. ita > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi Dr Grim > > > > > > > > > > What is the ratio of inspra compared to spiro?. Guest guest
I read you story . Sounds like you have been through the mill with dr.s not knowing. I have found taking the max of spiro works best as long as you can stand up, feel good, it gets rid of the misery. I had the Professor of Endo at UCD in SAcramento tell me there was nothing wrong and those are lab errors. That was when my thyroid went kaput after getting cured of hep c on interferon. I couldnt drive and was passing out and would not wake up very quickly , i didnt know what year it was of hand either. I had no thyroid hormone in my blood on the labs, but it was lab errors. I dont pay much attention to certain medical individules, LOL Make your own decisions and do your research. ita > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi Dr Grim > > > > > > > > > > What is the ratio of inspra compared to spiro?.
