Guest guest
Whenever renin And also are measured u need 24 hr urine 4 Na K and creat to. Be able to interpret. May your pressure be low!CE Grim MS, MDSpecializing in DifficultHypertension I picked up my most recent blood work today to prepare for my upcoming nephrology appointment. While I was there I asked for my previous 24 hour urinalysis results from about 2 years ago. 24 hr urine volume was 1200, protein 88.8, and another reading that says protein is 7.4. My question is does this test need to be done in conjunction with the aldosterone blood test? I'm assuming I need a more up to date 24 hour urinalysis since I do not know what my aldosterone level was about 2 years ago. Thanks for any feedback! 27 y/o , 115 lb at 5'6, female with 4+ year history of hypertension (Avg 135/95). Taken off all bp meds because of resistance to them. Currently awaiting a second opinion consult with Dr McGuffin Jr. at Renal Associates of Montgomery AL. First Aldo level taken this past June was 88 ng/dl. Taken again in July and was down to 18.8 ng/dl. The most recent aldo level was 42 ng/dl. K- 4.5, NA- 138, renin- 0.65. No known underlying illnesses other than a mild aortic murmur. Symptoms - shortness of breath, heart palpitations, nocturia 2+ times per night, fatigue/weakness.
Guest guest
I have had my aldosterone checked 3 times now, and no one (even a nephrologist) has requested a 24 hour urine; only a normal urinalysis I did right there in the office. I can see why so many doctors consider this condition 'rare,' no one seems to know how to go about detecting it! 27 y/o , 115 lb at 5'6, female with 4+ year history of hypertension (Avg 135/95). Guest guest
Only during one of the tests. It was .65. Another reason I'm starting to realize how proactive I really am going to need to be in this whole process. After reading Dr. Grim's evolution of PA and other files for our group, I've also realized they've been measuring my K incorrectly as well. A bit overwhelmed figuring all of this out!To: hyperaldosteronism Sent: Tuesday, November 15, 2011 7:24 PMSubject: Re: 24-hour Urinalysis Are they checking renin as well as aldosterone? > > > Â > >I picked up my most recent blood work today to prepare for my upcoming nephrology appointment. Guest guest
Do you know what you aldo was when your renin was .65? What if any meds were you taking when that test was done? > > > > > >  > > >I picked up my most recent blood work today to prepare for my upcoming nephrology appointment. Guest guest
With a test that gives aldo 18.8 and renin .65 would indicate you have PA. > > > > > > > > >  > > > >I picked up my most recent blood work today to prepare for my upcoming nephrology appointment. Guest guest
You have to advocate for yourself. Understand the proper testing protocol and insist on it. If we were paying our own bills, we would insist on cost-effective testing and treatment.
