My daughter does this all the time. I am positive she could shatter

glass with her voice. It does get frustrating during conversations.

But I just ask the other adult to wait a minuet and deal with her.

She gets so excited to show me something, I try to show the same

excitement. I have not found a way to stop it. I haven't even been

able to slightly control it, so I am not much help there. I just try

to keep in mind that she is communicating the only way she knows how.

Good luck

Kitty

Kitty you are right! She is communicating. I don't know where to go

with it. As she gets older it seems more persistant and she'll get

right into your face a inch or two and our noises would meet. She'll

also do it with visitors. If they don't know her very well they

usually don't respond so quick and therefore subjecting themselves to

a longer and more persistant " in your face " . It sounds like our

daughters are so alike.

Yes, yes, yes, my daughter did the same thing, and still does to a

lesser degree!

How old is your daughter? My daughter screamed/screeched constantly,

in a glass-shattering tone, until she finally got words. It seemed to

last forever, but it was probably about 6 months time.

She has also had/has a volume control problem, even with her words

being in now. She will speak very loudly, in places where you have to

be quiet (school hall, library, etc). She doesn't seem to understand

there are different levels of volume. She can whisper, but it's rare

that she does.

And she too can't go on until you repeat what she says. Not always,

but she still does get in ruts. She's almost 4.

I think ProEFA helped, and still is helping. She rarely screams now.

The other two issues still exist (volume and stuck in ruts), but are

decreasing.

By the way, I should add my daughter wasn't formally diagnosed with

autism - dyspraxia and hypotonia is what she was diagnosed with - but

I believe it's closely related.

Ideas for the screaming/volume...that's a tough one. I asked a

million folks along the way. Advice I got was try to ignore her,

don't give her a reaction (ha!, not easy to ignore when you can't

hear yourself think). Also, to encourage her to use words. Noone told

me about fishoil in real life, I found that advice online. That's a

good thing to try if you aren't already (proefa by nordic naturals).

As for the volume, I taught my daughter to whisper, but that doesn't

always work. I'm not sure if it's because she enjoys hearing herself,

or if it's an auditory processing issue.

Good luck!

My daughter will be 5 this summer. She was so loud at Church this

week. She hadn't been in several weeks and it was the end of the

vacation week so I guess I had that one comming.

She's unaware of volume levels in certain areas as well.

She is getting tested for Magnesium funny you mention that. She also

just got over a yeast infection. Very interesting!
