Guest guest
Vicky I to comed there to speak just a few weeks back. there wasmany parents register but only a very few to comed mostly was teachers. It was not my best to speak as had been ill and my voice to keeped stop working LOL but it was of rushed to me because was feared would lose my words before was done so did not do much teaching mode. The preschool does have a video made of it. Sad to hear you are to be struggling there. I to live in Dublin but I to come to Hilliard by the Dave and buster areas much and to go to the Aldis much in the summer for extra things due to kids being home and eating like piggies. I to go to Dr. Emilio Amigo's for therapy. Is you child of talking? and if so she is of age 4-5? I to think Dr. Amigo begins hims groups at that age. That is for you information. He to focus much on the Asperger's child and the HFA child. we have several Hilliard families that come to the amigo social groups of various ages. I to have of moms night out and plan to do one in July so will let you to know via the Ohio list that we have of one set. It is a time for families to meet up and connect to each other. It will maybe set for July 23. Sondra
Guest guest
_ Thank you for all the warm welcomes from everyone. I am very excited to be a part of such a supportive community. In direct response to Sondra and Penny, we live in Hilliard, Ohio. Penny, I'm not as positive about the school district's preschool, can you tell me more about your experience? Vicky. -
Guest guest
Vicky, When started the preschool she was only speaking about 5 words with meaning. She did and still does a lot of echolalia. She pretty much was in her own world, very anti-social. She was screened and put into Carri Carlisle's class, Carri's specialty is autism. She has recently been married and I am afraid I don't know her new name. She had Carri 2 years and moved into the transitional class with Sayers. Between these 2 teachers and her OT, PT, Speech, visions & APE instructors, she did great!! She now has a very big vocabulary, too many to count, using words in context. She still does a lot of echolilia, but at least now we can ask her questions and she will answer appropriatlely 3.5 out of 5 times. They really did wonders with her. Although they don't have specific programs for kids with autism, what they did have helped. Plus with a teacher that knew all about ASD, she would make thing autism appropriate. will be taking reg PE, intergrated with a kindergarten class this coming school year, she will also be integrated in at other times during the day. Her teacher that she is going to have for kindergarten is Nikia . She won Teacher of the Year this past year. Although Hilliard School District has some problems, what school district doesn't, I felt blessed to have them for . I have talked to a few parents in other parts of the country that have terrible stories, so I felt like we were very lucky & they were very good for her. So I did have a good experience with the preschool. I only hope that elementary level is as productive for us. I have tried to get extra help through MRDD but have had no luck. Children's Hospital just kind of dropped me on the curb after they diagnosed her. Like here you go, now go off and fend for yourself... Where did you find ABA therapy? Who did you call? Please let me know. I would love to find something like this for . Who was your daughter's teacher last year? Penny in OH 's Mom
