Hey,

I have ALWAYS said that....Her and carnie wilson too. I mean if you

didn't have to worry about stuff like that and hired someone to monitor every

bite that goes in your mouth, failure isn't much of an option. Besides, If I

had a Bazillion dollars, I could find enough to do, that food would be really

low on my list....LOL. Also...Carnie has a psych she can call if she needs a

Pep talk....How do you think these guys who do our psych evals would like it

if we called at 3 am for a pep talk to keep us from going in and eating the

rest of the ice cream?? I don't think it would be tolerated too well!!

I didn't see the Oprah show...I know her feelings on wls. Personally

I don't think it's a bad thing. After Carnie made wls almost an

everyday word, people started jumping on the surgery wagon left and

right. If Oprah makes you stop and think.. that is a good thing.

Surgery is a serious life long alteration of our digestive system and

shouldn't be jumped into like a fad diet. If Oprah's opinion keeps

you from having surgery then your weren't ready for it in the first

place.

Oprah is one of the reasons I decided to have surgery. I was

struggling with the issue...thinking thoughts like " how can you

mutilate your body " .... " why can't you just Stick to a diet " I was

losing sleep struggling with the decision making process. One

afternoon I plopped down in front of the TV and Oprah was on...I

thought " my God she is gaining again...If a woman who has exercised

as much as she has, can hire a personnel trainer, a cook, a woman who

is smart and an achiever....if she can't keep the weight off why the

hell do I think I can. " It was that moment that My thought process

started to change...I quit beating myself up emotionally over my

failure to diet and keep it off...I started to think...why not

surgery? When your gallbladder was attacking you, removing it wasn't

considered mutilation...when you had your tubes tied to prevent

pregnancies, you considered that taking control of your life not

mutulation....so why isn't wls fixing what has gone wrong and taking

control.....So even if Oprah doesn't advocate wls, her own personal

ongoing struggle can speak louder than words...if your ready to hear.

Kristy,

This is Marla in Denver. I, too, am a fan of Oprah. The best I ever

felt physically was when, because of her influence, I lost 90 lbs on

Optifast. Now, I know she is not perfect. I know she has a temper and

that she has acted out in public. But, she has had a major influence on the

American population as a whole. An example of this would be: I had a

neighbor who was a right wing, gun-toting with a " hang all felons " mentality.

She was anti-gay, anti-moderate, anti-freedom of speech, anti-everything!

She started watching Oprah and within a few years she began to open up her

mind and her views on people and events. Everything was not black and

white, and she recognized that there are gray areas. Today she can open up

and talk about her feelings. She is warm and friendly, not judgmental, and

has even locked up her guns in a cabinet. She says that is because of the

grandchildren and they have been robbed a couple times for the guns. It was

wonderful watching her change in her attitudes and views. She thinks Oprah

is responsible for that.

I know Oprah has a couple close friends who have had weight loss

surgery. One was Luther Vandros. I think the positive things she has done

far outweigh the negative ones.

Just my two cents............mjb

That was France. You are NOT invisible. Go look in the mirror. If people are

too suck on themselves and their issues to notice your beauty, that is NOT

your problem.
