Guest guest
nne, Here is some info for you to read. Always let the doctors know if you have a liver problem when you go see a new doctor. Certain medications can put stress on the liver, being that all medications are metabolized through the liver. Love Janet Olmesartan Pronunciation: OLE meh sar tan Brand Name: Benicar --------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------- Important Information Description Who should not take it? How should I take it? What happens if I miss a dose? What happens if I overdose? What should I avoid while taking it? What are the side effects? What other drugs will affect it? Where can I get more information? What does my medication look like? Brand Names --------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------- What is the most important information I should know about olmesartan? Do not take olmesartan if you are pregnant or could become pregnant. When used during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, olmesartan can cause injury and even death to the developing baby. Notify your doctor immediately if you think you might be pregnant. Use caution when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities. Olmesartan may cause dizziness or drowsiness. If you experience dizziness or drowsiness, avoid these activities. Also use caution when rising from a sitting or lying position. Use alcohol cautiously. Alcohol may further lower blood pressure and increase drowsiness and dizziness while taking olmesartan. What is olmesartan? Olmesartan is in a class of drugs called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. Olmesartan prevents the constriction (narrowing) of blood vessels (veins and arteries). Olmesartan is used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure). Olmesartan may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide. What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before taking olmesartan? Before taking olmesartan, tell your doctor if you have kidney disease; have liver disease; are on a salt-restricted diet or have high levels of potassium in your blood; or are taking a potassium supplement (e.g., K-Dur, Klor-Con, others), or a potassium-sparing diuretic such as amiloride (Midamor), triamterene (Dyrenium, Dyazide, Maxzide), or spironolactone (Aldactone). You may not be able to take olmesartan, or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment if you have any of the conditions listed above. Olmesartan is in the FDA pregnancy category D. This means that it is known to be harmful to an unborn baby. When used during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, olmesartan can cause injury and even death to the developing baby. Do not take olmesartan if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment. It is not known whether olmesartan passes into breast milk. Do not take olmesartan without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. How should I take olmesartan? Take olmesartan exactly as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you. Take each dose with a full glass (8 ounces) of water. Olmesartan can be taken with or without food. Do not stop taking olmesartan without first talking to your doctor. If you stop taking the medication, your condition could become worse. Store olmesartan at room temperature away from moisture and heat. What happens if I miss a dose? Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and take only the next regularly scheduled dose. Do not take a double dose of this medication. What happens if I overdose? Seek emergency medical attention. Symptoms of an olmesartan overdose are not well known, but might include dizziness, weakness, fainting, fatigue, and chest pain. What should I avoid while taking olmesartan? Use caution when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities. Olmesartan may cause dizziness or drowsiness. If you experience dizziness or drowsiness, avoid these activities. Also use caution when rising from a sitting or lying position. Use alcohol cautiously. Alcohol may further lower blood pressure and increase drowsiness and dizziness while taking olmesartan. Do not use salt substitutes or take potassium supplements without first talking to your doctor. Olmesartan can affect potassium levels in the body. What are the possible side effects of olmesartan? If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop taking olmesartan and contact your doctor immediately or seek emergency medical treatment: an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives); or little or no urine. Other side effects are less serious and may be more likely to occur. Continue to take olmesartan and talk to your doctor if you experience diarrhea or upset stomach; dizziness; headache; insomnia; or congestion or cough (very unlikely). Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome. What other drugs will affect olmesartan? Before taking olmesartan, tell your doctor if you take a potassium supplement such as K-Dur, Klor-Con, and others; take a potassium-sparing diuretic (water pill) such as amiloride (Midamor), spironolactone (Aldactone), or triamterene (Dyrenium, Dyazide, Maxzide); or use a salt substitute. Olmesartan can affect potassium levels in the body. You may not be able to take olmesartan, or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring if you are taking any of the products listed above. Tell your doctor about any other medicines you take to treat high blood pressure or other heart conditions. Olmesartan may cause very low blood pressure if it is taken with other heart medications. Drugs other than those listed here may also interact with olmesartan or affect your condition. Talk to your doctor and pharmacist before taking any prescription or over-the-counter medicines, including herbal products. Where can I get more information? Your pharmacist has additional information about olmesartan written for health professionals that you may read. What does my medication look like? Olmesartan is available with a prescription under the brand name Benicar. Other brand or generic formulations may also be available. Ask your pharmacist any questions you have about this medication, especially if it is new to you. Benicar 5 mg-yellow, round, film-coated tablets Benicar 20 mg-white, round, film-coated tablets Benicar 40 mg-white, oval, film-coated tablets Brand Names: Benicar --------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------- Remember, keep this and all other medicines out of the > > > > > Dang Fred that was a lot better than mine! > > > > > > > > > > A good friend will come bail you out of jail, > > but > > > > a true friend > > > > will be > > > > > sitting next to you saying........ Guest guest
nne, I don't think Diovan contains a diuretic.. Check this out.... http://www.diovan.com/index.jsp blood pressure I take Altace 2.5mg 2x a day (Blood pressure). Good as it has a high dose per day if needed. As far as I know no Diuretics. Good for Diabetes. Not hard on the Liver. Along with Plavix 65mg 1x a day. (Clotting Factor) Welchol (Cholestrol). 1875mg 2x a day. Statin Drugs (Zocor etc.)for Cholesterol can be very hard on the liver and cause side effects to the Liver. Welchol works in the digestive system instead of the Liver. That's why the dose is so high. Asprin 384mg a day. Atenolol (Heart Arrhythmia) 50mg 1x a day. This only addresses my heart. Hope this helps. Feel like a phamacy distributin point sometimes. htyp://www.altace.com Fred Steve, Does that have a diuretic in it? nne --- Steve Mullis wrote: > I'm taking Diovan and it's working great. > > > > Anyone here taking any meds for blood pressure? > nne > --- Janet wrote: > > > > > Actually you both made me giggle, now I must > find > > some jokes on men > > so I can conteract all the testerone flowing > through > > this group. > > LOL > > Love > > Janet > > > > > > > > > Dang Fred that was a lot better than mine! > > > > > > A good friend will come bail you out of jail, > but > > a true friend > > will be > > > sitting next to you saying........ Guest guest
Eddie, Like my wife would say you touched on a limp point:). Yes it does. My alter ego says yes but my physical being says no. Can't take the sex wonder drug because I may have to take Nitro if my heart skips a beat during the act. I hope it does. But I try (Human nature takes hold). But it may also be due to my Diabetes and or Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD). I found sometimes mind (the little I have) over matter (in the scientific sense). The snows on the roof and fires in the basement. Engauge brain before putting hips in gear. Fred Fred: Do you find that the Altace causing a diminish in the sex drive?
