As you may have read I have been trying to figure how we work. Just

trying to understand neurotransmitters could take me a lifetime!!!

Then trying to read information on ASD and ADHD. There are a lot of

theories and, " treatment options, " out there, but who wants to be the

lab rat??? I am kind of frusterated right now and maybe just

venting. Anyone want to share some theories with me?? thanks - emily

If you read books that have been out for YEARS, you find support for

nutritional supplementation as a treatment method for allergies

associated with ADD and ADHD and other behavioral issues, and even

mental issues. Your child doesn't have to the be the lab rat...this

has been tried and tested for years.

Here are three you can start with:

" Is This Your Child, " by Doris Rapp MD

" Superimmunity for Kids " by Leo Galland MD

" The Brain Chemistry Diet " by Lesser MD

Others are ANYTHING by Dr. Feingold, " The Yeast Connection " by

Crook MD, or " Feast without Yeast " by Bruce Semon MD. I

looked at the Blood Type Diet stuff, I looked at " What Would Jesus

Eat " by Dr. Colbert. There is a HUGE connection between gut health

and behavior, because our food is the fuel for our neurotransmitters.

Borrow these books from the library. If your local library does not

have them, ask them to borrow them through interlibrary loan. Look

in the bibliography of each book to " springboard " your reading into

the next topic that fits with your daughter's issues

Go over to amazon dot com and type in the names of these books.

With each book, scroll down the page to the section that says

something like this: " People who bought THIS book also bought... "

and you'll get ANOTHER list of titles to consider.

Then you can go BACK to your library and borrow more.

I heard Dorfman speak twice last week, and she said that one

thing that is really helpful to parents seeking answers is to have

an IgG allergy test run so you know where the big delayed immune

responses to foods are, and the parent can choose to eliminate

certain foods completely, or rotate them, or simply eliminate them

during periods of stress, or during springtime when pollens make

behaviors worse (she gave a scientific study on behaviors that

worsen in the spring due to the burden of pollen).

Hope this helps,

PennY

That was my point, that there is so much information out there how do

I know what to try!!! I have been thinking of making a sensory chart

and then trying to figure out what is hyper/hypo in her, such as she

has a high tolerance to pain, but a low tolerance to sounds, etc.. i

want to make it as detailed as i can to try to figure out what links

to what, and then decide what theuroputic approaches to take. Thanks

for the information though. I appreciate any kind of help!! thanks

the first DAN! doctor we saw gave us a matrix (or grid, or you could

call it a hand-drawn graph) he'd drawn. it was the most helpful

piece of paper. it holds about 2 weeks worth of information on it.

One one axis, you are supposed to list behaviors, and on the other

axis, you're supposed to put anything new or unusual about the day.

The top little " box " of the matrix is for the date. So in the

little boxes, you match up a behavior w/ a date and put a star or

notation in it.

So you can chart everything from rashes to tantrums to night

giggling to ear pulling, you name it, you chart a behavior.

And on the other axis, you can chart full moon, that she ate ketchup

that day, that her teacher was absent and she had a substitute,

whatever may have affected her. We saw big correlations with

foods. Rash around the mouth w/ tomato was one.
