Helene,

we've been there with the car issue too, just yesterday in fact. We got a new

(to us) van last week. My DD, 14, with OCD, wanted a seat that would be " just

hers " , but she and her 11-yr old brother fight over the front seat. Yesterday

she sat in the back; when I dropped her off at her therapy appt, her brother

later decided it'd be fun to lay down in the back seat and take a nap. Now, I

know he never considered the fact that his feet were laying right where my DD

was sitting and I didn't catch it either.

BUT, when we picked up , she made a comment about gravel and shoes and of

course, THEN brother had to mention he had laid down there. To her credit, she

didn't freak, but she did start making comments about how the " gravel dust " on

his shoes would kill her. I immediately told her I would not tolerate comments

like this (especially in front of her 5-year old sister), because they were not

true and she knew they were OCD lies, so she should tell them to go away. Don't

know if I handled it right (probably not), but she didn't say anything else and

she didn't move from the seat!

I've got the same issues with her on not really engaging in any tangible

constructive ERP that I can see. She has mostly good or great days, and we've

just learned to deal with the bad ones, but not be sucked in by them. It still

irks me and sometimes downright pisses me off that she won't tackle it, but I

just keep hoping she'll do it someday.

Just wanted you to know I'm with you in spirit!

Debbie
