Hi ,

Sorry you are having a bad time, I am 51 and my asthma worsened 2 years

ago after a very bad chest infection.

Don't be too quick to assume the dogs are implicated,I have 4 dear

ginger cats and all the asthma doctors moaned at me. But allergy tests

proved the cats were not to blame. Urge your doctor to arrange allergy

testing to see if it is allergy related or not. I have a Kirby cleaner

which really does keep the hairs and dust down in our house which has

carpet through out. Get him to do a sputum test to see if you have a

nasty lung bug which can be resistant to antibiotics. Finally my asthma

worsening is also related to menopause, asthma is often much worse at

this time so look into that too.

Hope you get some answers soon.

Hi ,

I have asthma and live with several dogs and cats. Because I do rescue and foster, the number varies but can be as many as 8-10. My doctor would probably be appalled. The only asthma med I take is Advair. It seems my asthma isn't allergy driven. I react more to exercise, weather and dust. I had an electronic air cleaner and allergy zapper installed on my furnace. I also get non-alcohol based baby wipes and use them to clean the dogs coats several times a week. I have hardwood floors and buy area rugs with a tight nap...., vacuum frequently and use a mask when I do. I also sometimes roll them up and store them during the warm months. You may want to also try bathing your dogs once a month. I hope you find this info helpful.

I'm surprised the dr. didn't put you on albuterol in an inhaler or somethin. It is quick acting and helps me a lot. I use it in a nebulizer, too. The throat is probably from coughing, and it is most likely inflamed. I am not a dr. but I do experience the same thing. My voice gets hoarse, too when I cough or am congested. The pollen here is driving me crazy. Welcome to our group. If you need any further help, let us know. . Donohoue wrote:

I thought I had what everybody else in Cincinnati had - but it didn't go away. After pulmonary testing my doc said I have asthma. I am taking Singulair and Flovent. I am still fairly uncomfortable. Feels like my throat is swollen but not sore. What do you all do to manage this? God bless you!__________________________________________________

HI..I have 2 cats too. I bathe them a few times a year to help

control their shedding. This seems to help me. I dont believe I am

allergic to them like I am to some dogs though. My asthma seems to

be excaberated(spelling??) by dust, perfumes, weather changes.

For a long time I haven't been able to stand the smell of perfume. I get a headache almost immediately. Is that tied to the asthma also?

I can't handle perfume at all. It gives me a headache and some of it triggers my asthma, so yes, it is tied to the asthma. I covet all the prayers of my friends on the list as I may be facing knee replacement. It is worn out. I'll know more after the MRI, and when I see the orthopedist again. I'll let you all know what's going on as soon as I can. Thanks. . Donohoue wrote:

The only asthma med I take is Advair. It seems my asthma isn't allergy driven. I react more to exercise, weather and dust. I had an electronic air cleaner and allergy zapper installed on my furnace. I also get non-alcohol based baby wipes and use them to clean the dogs coats several times a week. I have hardwood floors and buy area rugs with a tight nap...., vacuum frequently and use a mask when I do. I also sometimes roll them up and store them during the warm months. You may want to also try

bathing your dogs once a month. I hope you find this info helpful.HI..I have 2 cats too. I bathe them a few times a year to help control their shedding. This seems to help me. I dont believe I am allergic to them like I am to some dogs though. My asthma seems to be excaberated(spelling??) by dust, perfumes, weather changes. God bless you!

Bridgette, try not to panic. I could be just a false positive. Let the dr. run the other tests to be sure. Hugs, VickieG

Good Morning Everyone!I am new to this group, I found out on Friday that my 1st Hep C test came back positive and to be honest with you I dont know where to even begin! My Dr. took more blood work because he said this could actually be a false-positive, for some reason he said these tests are hard to read or something, has anyone ever heard of this? I am 25 and have NO idea where I could have come into contact with this diease...I have NEVER used IV drugs (Monday was the 1st time I have ever had my blood drawn becuase of me fear of needles) and have led an extremely low risk lifestyle. I dont know if it is too forward to ask if anyone here knows or thinks they know where they got Hep C? For me that is part of my fear, I have no idea how long I have had this, I am only 25! I have an appointment with a liver specialist on Wednesday so hopefully I will find out more because, as I am sure you all

know how scary this is! My ALT level were 101 when I had my blood work done on Monday, as a Pre-OP for an ovarien dermoid cyst removal! Any information would be so helpful at this point, I would LOVE to sleep tonight! Anything that I should stay away from at this point, I know drinking is one of them! I look forward to getting to know everyone and appreciate a site like this, at least I am not alone! Thanks Brigette

Brigette ~~ I can't think of one person that didn't have a lot of concern, fear, or worry when they first discover that have Hep C. Mine was through a routine physical and came as a total shock. Not only do I have this, but I have two brothers who do too. One has no idea where he got it from. For myself, it is likely that I got it from the one time I used IV drugs back in 1992. It's kinda like getting pregnant...it only takes once. For the other brother, he's been a life long drug user. Others have given you a lot of words of wisdom and I have found this group to be a God-send for me. I know that I wouldn't be doing as well as I am

without them. Keep coming around and ask away on all the questions, concerns you might have. We'll give it our best effort to help you in any way that we can. Blessings, igette2448706 wrote: Good Morning Everyone!I am new to this group, I found out on Friday that my 1st Hep

Brigette.

I know this is much easier for me to say, than it may be for you to

do...... but Relax...Take some deep breaths in, and do what you

enjoy..reading, music, bungee jumping.. what ever feels good!!

OKAY??

It is only normal to wonder where you got it, but the truth is it

doesn't matter if you have it.

Just lay low till your appt. and see what evolves.. You are young,

I understand your way of thinking concerning your age, ya' know

like..Man!! I'm only 25 yrs. old?? I can't have this!! I have a lot

to do!

The flip side is that your are one of the lucky ones that (may)

find out early on and you can take care of your self as you should,

and most likely will do everything that is in young young heart

now.. It is not a death sentence, it's a new way of life.

AS far as sleep??? I just got back from the ER (urine infection),

and asked can you give something for sleep? I knew the answer would

probably be no. and it was. We are all built different inside, so

ask your doc what he thinks.

Over the counter drugs can harmful to our livers as well.

The ER Doc told me, that if I simply must get some rest, make sure

whatever I use doesn't have acetaminophen in it. The label on the

box will let you know that.

Another thing I found that helped, is when trying to tell a

drugstore employee, or you just can't get around having to

pronounce the word..it helped me to kinda' act like I was rubbing

my eye, and say (a little muffled), I SMELL THE FEET OF MEN !

Now put that all together so it's like ismellthefeetofmen, real

fast, with just a slight look of, you mean you don't know what I

mean? It is common in most sleep and allergy mediciens then you

should be OK.... OKAY?? :=)

Del

you are not alone........

The first test is usually just a test that looks for antibodies in your blood which just means that you have been exposed, this can be a false positive because a few people will clear and always test positive. They do a test called a PCR which will confirm the diagnosis of Hep C

Many people have no idea how they got it and that is ok, don't let yourself stay worried about it. It takes about 20 years or more to begin having any symptoms so most people are able to think back about 20 years and get a good idea of how they got it.

But you are so young unless your mom has it or someone you lived with growing up, you may never know.

You can still hang out here, we don't care how you got it. were all fighting the dragon.

Brigette, Hi,my name is Terri and I'm also new to this group Its been 3 weeks since my diagnoses and the waiting for results is horrible!!!! I know how you feel about being scared and letting your mind wonder thinking about where you could have contracted this virus, as for me or in my case it was a wake up call from up stairs from the big guy letting me know what a dummy I was and opening my eyes to the things I was missing in life, and I realize now there no sense in stressin out on how you got it cause even if you do find out, well you know it's to late now to prevent it. I could point fingers all day long but my son told me once every time you point your finger you have three pointing back at you, and its tru lol.Wish I could give you words of advice but thats why I,m here ,but I can tell you that no matter what you've done or what you have caught God loves you and the people around you

love you so keep your head up ,thats what I'm trying to do and this group will help us out.My prayers are with you and god bless ya
