Guest guest
We got the Care and Keeping of you, over 3 years ago. It covers everything, and she likes reading it now. It really helped her not get nervous or afraid when she started her period. I also got my girls other books from the AMerican Girl series. I really like the " Ooops Manners " book as well. The hard part has been elementry school. I let the teacher know when has her period and she has a cute coin purse she selected at wal_mart for her pads to go into. Then when she goes to the nurses after lunch to change, no one knows. Guest guest
It's by American Girl. You should find all the American Girl books in one place at a bookstore in the children's section. Guest guest
Hi, I highly recommend the American Girls series. The have a book called " The Body Book " . I is made especially for young girls and has lots of pictures. My daughter started when she was 11 and it helped her alot. She is also high functioning but is very emotionally immature. I dreaded the day she started and expected the worst. When it did happen she handled it so much better than I thought she would. I think it helped that I sat down with her and that book and also wrote out a social story of exactly what would happen and what she needed to do when it did. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Hi Diane I would recommend the American Girl series books. did so good with " the care & keeping of you " . And my 9yr old NT daughter has the " ooops, manners. " I was very surprised when started to mature after turning 10. Her ped. said that they are finding the " golden " time is when a girl is 100#'s. And it was very true with , on the day of her 11th Birthday, she got her first period and was very calm and collective about it. I think the book, and the communication with her has been of great help. Her book also talks about pubic and under arm hair and even getting braces and other issues for this stage of her life. Her younger sister is also reading this book. And even though she has more understanding of things, it has been very helpful for her. ANd now that she is approaching the 100# at age 10, she talks with for more information and understanding. It's great to see them communicate so well. Hope this helps some. Guest guest
Oooh, yeah, the American Girl book is great! It's helping me stay sane as I work my way through this with Allie! I REALLY like the way it makes menstruation so matter of fact, no big deal, just one more thing a girl should learn about taking care of her body -- like eating healthy meals, exercising, hygiene ,,, I think the whole book has a really healthy attitude, and it helps me to introduce difficult topics in a relaxed and casual way. When Allie got her first pimple, we just opened the book to the chapter on skin care and read - then went shopping together for a good gentle facial cleanser. It was cool, very Mother-Daughter! :-) She keeps the book on her nightstand, so she can look things up when she wants to. Sandi

Guest guest
Thank you very much for the information about the American Girl book. The one I have been working out of that K's Mom had purchased for her is called " Ready, Set, Grow! " by Lynda Madaras. It is a book that has been very helpful. I was more interested in finding out if other people noticed a heightened sense of anxiety when puberty set in and what sort of things were done to help besides medication. Guest guest
I don't know personally yet. Allie's psychiatrist says his experience is that if they already tend to be pretty anxious or tense it usually increases a lot when puberty gets in full swing.
