I have seen pictures of children who have autism and I notice that

some do not have the furrow above the upper lip like most people do?

Does anyone know what this means? Also Do many kids with autism have

a small head? I'm not trying to be mean, just curious. Is there

physical things to look for in kids who have Autism?

Steph

I have not noticed the furrow missing. Its not missing in my daughter. I do

not know of any physical characteristics to look for, that's why its

difficult for strangers to understand the behavior sometimes. I have read

that people with autism are considered attractive, not any different looking

than anyone else, sometimes better looking. I don't know about the small

head either, if anything I think it might be bigger. I can only go by my

children, and what I have seen myself.

I think you would see autistic characteristics in behavior, not physical

features. Even then not all children have the same behavior. There are alot

of resources available online that discuss the signs.

There are no unifying physical characteristics for children who have

autism. This would suggest either a chromosomal abnormality ( such as

in many syndromes) or a recessive or dominant gene for common

phenotypic traits. Neither is true. There is evidence to suggest a

possible genetic component in some children, but this genetic component

does not involve physical characteristics such as you describe. As far

as the head circumference, the final size of the head is not an issue.

The common thread in some children with autism has been somewhat more

rapid growth of the head after birth, but it is not yet clear as to the

significance of this.

Steph,

My daughter's head has always been appropriately for her age. She doesn't have

furrow. Bur we have a very hard time getting eye contact and a smile for

pictures. Its usually one or the other.

A child is like a butterfly in the wind, some fly faster, some fly harder but

they all fly the best they can. Each one is different, each one is beautiful

and each one is special.

I have to agree with the other post that said that autistic children

are beautiful. I have heard several people remark that. I look at

Abby every day and wonder where she got her good looks from-LOL!

I think part of their beauty is their personality. Kara is so loving

and loves to touch people even at age 9. She greets everyone almost

with a hug. And they are so innocent. (seemingly)
