Not scoliosis related exactly except makes my heart skip a beat when there is water on his cast. Cole is getting too smart for his own good. 1st he's started to learn stall techniques to get me to visit while he's napping (I pooped, I thirsty, oh no baby (when he dropped baby out of the crib) etc. Then today while he was washing his hands I all of a sudden hear "drink" so I run in the bathroom to see that he has grabbed a cup and is helping himself to some water. His shirt is soaking and he is happy as can be. Just thought I'd share a good moment in the midst of all the stresswaiting to hear back about a possible chiari malformation. Heidi,

Im all in favor of the hospitals being just like the Four Seasons Hotel. I love those hotels and i want the indoor/outdoor pool as well! Why has no one figured this out yet? What most regular hospitals charge to stay in them a 5 star hotel would be cheaper and you would at least get the amenities to go with it!

BTW a little off topic but we saw the billed charges to our insurance company and for the surgeon charges alone it was 62,000 thousand dollars!!!! I about died! So we will see what the week in the hospital will cost....

That's a great point, ! I will remember that, and I do like Mc's food. Well, some of it. You can't really go wrong with a vanilla cone or sundae, and those Southwest grilled chicken salads and grilled chicken snack wraps- pretty good in a pinch! I won't mention fries or I'll want them...oh, but a 99 cent fry is only about 260 calories, without ketchup. Practically a health food.

Seriously, it's a wonderful thing they do, I'll definitely support it!Heidi, Bexon's Mama, (2 years old, in 3rd cast from Salt Lake City Shriners, currently down from 61 degrees to 25)

Whoa. Is that ish Rite? Do thery charge your insurance? Shriners doesn't even charge our insurance, but we'd be happy for them to do so. Does your hospital cover above and beyond what the insurance pays? Our biggest expense in casting is our travel/hotel costs. Heidi,

Sorry, guess i should have clarified. Those charges are from Isaiah's brain surgery that he had done at Dell Childrens Hospital in Austin,TX. Thanks GOD ish Rite is like a shriners in that they are a free hospital and they do not even bill your insurance or ever send you a bill. I know the brain surgery was terribly expensive but ish told us it had to be done before they could/would cast him. Our biggest expense will be the travel from KS to TX for casting every 8 weeks too. After i saw what it costs for Isaiah's surgery it just makes me so much more thankful for hospitals such as ish Rite and Shriners. Without them who knows if we could even afford to get the care he desperately needs.

We truly are blessed!

I agree, we are also truly blessed to be getting the kind of care Bexon's getting at Shriners in SLC, which he could not have gotten here in L.A. even in the top tier hospitals- even with our great health insurance! This still blows my mind...

I read the Shriners history and there was one Shriner in particular who travelled the country, meeting with every Shriners Temple and group and getting them on board to start the hospitals. It's shockingly kind what they have done for so many children, since 1922!Heidi, Bexon's Mama, (2 years old, in 3rd cast from Salt Lake City Shriners, currently down from 61 degrees to 25)

The nerve of him - LOL! And I always thought that was a nice guy.

And, yes, whoever was wondering - you are NOT the only one who has a drink to

help them deal every now and again...and again :-)

I'm not much of a fan of Mc's food either but please let me know when they

add those McMargarita's - I may have to reconsider going there!

We got an ISOP welcome bag at Isabella's first casting and it had fabric in it to do this and I wasn't so sure cause I had never done it.  Now hearing how to do it is making me want to try it out. Patty, mom of Isabella, 2 years old, in 1st cast (Rochester) & mom to & EvanTo: infantile_scoliosis Sent: Friday, September 4, 2009 1:33:24 PMSubject: Re: Too Smart!

Mod Podge is a brand name of an all-in-one glue, sealer, and finish product,

You would brush a coat on with a regular or foam paint brush, place your decorative element down (if using one) and brush another coat of the product on top.. Let dry, and there you go. You may need to do another top coat depending on what you are adhering. It dries hard and clear.

That's right ISOP does have bags that have the materials to do this. Sometimes if you use a favorite character you have a better reaction and an easier time of the child sitting still, and since Cole is 20months old he might sit still better for Superman than for random fabric.

Look in the pics file -there are some cool casts in there!

Gail,

Hello my name is . I see that your child has the VEPTR . I am actually flying to Seattle tomorrow to see a surgeon in regards to those rods for my son Aidan. He is 4 yrs old with 75 degree curve. He recently had stationary rods and they broke loose due to his spine collapsing as a result of his hemi-vertebreas. I know this is not a website for this so if you would feel better email me privately! But I would love to hear your opinion.

I vote for Spiderman too!! That is all my son will wear!!! Oh the power of the Spiderman!

,I received the bag after Isabella's casting while I was waiting to go back in to recovery.  It was just a little jean bag with ISOP and the crooked flower on the outside and inside were all the materials needed to do the mod podge (sealer, material, tacky glue, & brush), and also there was a tube of the calendula cream that everyone talks about, a pair of Baby legs (rainbow leg warmers), and an ISOP pamphlet. I was told that ISOP provided them to the hospital. Patty, mom of Isabella, 2 years old, in 1st cast (Rochester) & mom to & EvanTo: infantile_scoliosis Sent: Sunday, September 6, 2009 1:09:56 PMSubject: Re: Too Smart!

ISOP sent us this bag after we watched the Mehta video and were going in for casting...I believe we made a donation for the video- the basic cost- and it was optional to make the donation for the bag/kit. Maybe 20 dollars for the video and twenty dollars suggested for the bag? We gave more for the bag...it's up to you.

Now, we all know that is extremely busy dealing with ISOP and Olivia's upcoming surgery, and ISOP is in need of funds, so I do not know if they do or don't have the bags right now.

You can buy mod podge and brushes to apply it at any craft/fabric store. Or online. The fabric they sent may not be the characters you want to use. You can use stickers, too, right? You would need glue for fabric cutouts, not for stickers. Mod podge is clear.

I forget what else was in it...glue...the calendula cream is a different brand than the one I like, but I'm sure it works great. I used it, but prefer the scent of Weleda baby calendula cream, just a personal thing. Hope that helps.Heidi, Bexon's Mama, (2 years old, in 3rd cast from Salt Lake City Shriners, currently down from 61 degrees to 25)
