I haven't, maybe I should try. I didn't realize it had benefits other than

decorating! Is it easy to do? DOes it take a long time to dry? My kido

doesn't sit still long lol

How do you modge podge...??? Joanmom to Hayden 2 1/262 degreesTreated at ish Rite Hospital Dallas, TX

Yup, they do that. They get smarter than we are - or so they think! Have you mod podged his cast? It will help when when he decides to help himself to a drink and other liquid based fun - washing hands, playing in the sink etc.

Cole is very smart- at only 20 months! He really washes his hands by himself? Oh, my child must be behind! Our sinks are too high for him to reach, though. I'm scared he may learn to turn on the tub faucet someday- he's very interested in that! He also likes to stand in the shower...yikes.

I've become a little less worried about small water spills. A regular t-shirt soaks up most of it. To my shame, I was having a vodka soda (more flavored berry soda than vodka) one night and Bexon pulled it over on my lap and himself! Didn't soak into the cast...I guess smelly beer or red wine all over the cast would've been worse? I'd hate to have to explain that at cast change time...Er, it's grape juice? Jesus turned the water into wine, it's in the Bible! ; ) Bad mommy...Heidi, Bexon's Mama, (2 years old, in 3rd cast from Salt Lake City Shriners, currently down from 61 degrees to 25)

He's at that age where you have to have eyes on the back of your head, lol! He sounds like a real cutie.

Around the same age, I found Ian in the bath room with a cup helping himself to some water too...only it was from the toilet! Aack!! He'd already drank a big moutful before I could get to him.

It shouldn't take too long. You will probably want to do it in sections any way. The Mod Podge can be used in decorating if you want to put fabric or paper. You know, if you find some fabric or wrapping/scrapbook paper with Cole' favorite character on it, you could cut a few out, put a coat of the Podge on a section of the cast, then the character, then another coat of podge. Then say something like "Cole, I need you to sit here with mommy and we will look at this book while /Spiderman/Batman/Yo Gabba Gabba/Elmo dries and isn't sticky any more." Do thin coats as it will work better all around. It may take a few days to get the whole cast done, but you would mainly be concerned with the front.

Think how cool a big Superman "S" or Batman's "Bat" would look in the middle of his chest. Or if he likes Sesame Street, maybe Super Grover's "G" or the Train's Face.

Just some ideas. I have played with Mod Podge since the 1970's - that's right, the 70's. I'm just hoping I am not older than it since the website just says it was created in the 1960's and doesn't give a year. It also says the creater Mod Podged a VW Beatle with bedsheets!

Mod Podge is a brand name of an all-in-one glue, sealer, and finish product,

You would brush a coat on with a regular or foam paint brush, place your decorative element down (if using one) and brush another coat of the product on top. Let dry, and there you go. You may need to do another top coat depending on what you are adhering. It dries hard and clear.

Heidi,

you are an adult and are legally able to have adult beverages. If he had pulled it over onto himself, well, accidents happen! Of course you could tie-dye his cast....

As long as it wasn't while you were driving, no worries. BTW, that drink sounds good!

Perfect! Another good source of fabric pices would be old t-shirts that they have outgrown - just cut out the picture and use it.

I should clarify that by wash hands I mostly mean playing with his hands under

the water. He asks for soap and i squirt some on he squishes it about and

splashes some more. I don't know how thorough it us but he thinks he is washing

his hands and I am all about supporting the habit so I let him. He has a stool

he keeps by the sink that is tall enough for him to just get his finger tips

under the water when it is on full blast. Its great because he can't reach

enough to get really wet.

Not scoliosis related exactly except makes my heart skip a beat when there is water on his cast. Cole is getting too smart for his own good. 1st he's started to learn stall techniques to get me to visit while he's napping (I pooped, I thirsty, oh no baby (when he dropped baby out of the crib) etc. Then today while he was washing his hands I all of a sudden hear "drink" so I run in the bathroom to see that he has grabbed a cup and is helping himself to some water. His shirt is soaking and he is happy as can be. Just thought I'd share a good moment in the midst of all the stresswaiting to hear back about a possible chiari malformation. I should add FLUENTLY, not just being able to order in Russian/Spanish/German! Hee hee...

Hey the place they really need a bar is in the hospital cafeterias!...maybe that's a bad idea. We''ll have to settle for comfort food. I think I have some expired cat morphine.

Hi Guys,

On a more serious note (sorry it just came to me when you mentioned Mcs) everyone should donate extra change or more if you can whenever you go to Mcs to support the Mc House Charities. When we were in Austin for Isaiah's surgery we had been accepted for a room there and it was like the Taj Mahal after trying to sleep in the hospital chair. They provide a hot meal a room with a bed and a hot shower and after being in the hospital NOTHING is better than that! It only costs a family 10.00 dollars a night and your not turned away for inability to pay.

Since we spent 9 nights in Austin can you imagine what the expense would have been for a hotel stay? Instead we paid 90.00 dollars. It truly was a blessing.

Please donate you never know when you may need them, i never would have imagined we would!

Thanks,

PS sorry Gail no McMargritas there either! Darn!

I agree about the Mc Houses. As much as I despise Mc's food (and I do), I totally support the houses. My MOMS Club has provided brunch there several times and you leave saying "there but for the grace of God..."

Yeah, no McMargaritas. Don't know why they don't take me up on that idea.

Funny! Room service delivery, and I'd like the room and menu to be like a Four Seasons Hotel. Same beds, etc...can you ask Shriners and ish Rite, etc., to get on top of that?

Ya know, I held on to that cat morphine for awhile...in case the kitty needed it. Her ashes are now on our mantle in a tasteful little box. It expired, so I threw it out. Oh, well I guess I'll never know if kitty morphine has an effect on humans. In the interest of science, of course.

I'm guessing you are not the same size as your little one, so it probably would be a waste! LOL. Sad but true tales...it's a journey! ; )Heidi, Bexon's Mama, (2 years old, in 3rd cast from Salt Lake City Shriners, currently down from 61 degrees to 25)
