Some chiropractors do know a lot about autism. I know one that is now

learning cranial sacral (sp) and I hope she will be able to see my son soon

(she is also a dietitian).

Your son's father *must* pay support! It's the law, and it's for your

son. You can go to court and get a child support order yourself. Use

legalaid or a legal clinic for women; they charge sliding scale. It's

criminal that this man should get by without helping support his own

son. Don't let him.

Oh, and welcome! My son Louie is 23, HFA/AS, in supported living for 2

years now and doing great! I write from the wilds of Albuquerque, NM,

tucked against the mountains. :)

Hi!!! Welcome to the group.

I too am a single mother of two children. Father left because he couldnt handle my son. Ive had to take on the role of mother and father for the past years now. My son is 5, has Aspergers and Bipolar also. My daughter is 6. My ex doesnt pay child support either, which makes all this even more difficult.

If you have any questions about stuff everyone here is very helpful. I have resources here in my area to help my son and me (help keep me sane!!). If you need any help finding stuff let me know and ill be glad to help you do some reseach.

Again welcome to the group :)

High Functioning Autism and Aspergers :)

LOL.. thats where my ex is heading right now. CSE is going to request he be put on work release to at least pay part of his child support.

I quess I forgot to mention his father is in jail, for non payment of child support. A bit rediculous, since there is no way for him to pay from jail either, but that's the way they do it I quess. Please, what is HFA/AS.

It usually has to be decided by the judge during the hearing for contempt. If I were you I would call your CSE worker up and ask them if they can ammend his sentence and request that he be put on work release. That way YOU KNOW you will be getting child support at least while he is in jail. Then when he is on probation if he misses ONE payment he goes right back into jail.

I had to really pressure my CSE office to make such a request but I wrote them and wrote them and called and called until they agreed this would be the best way to get him to pay.

Ive also informed my CSE case manager of my sons problems in letters with documentation to emphasis the point that I NEED that support for both my children(not that anyone else doesnt, but with a special needs child the stress level and lack of daycare in my area makes it extremely hard for me to support my two children). She seems to be working harder NOW than she did before.

How do you see about getting them on work release?

The thing to do, if he's going to prison, is apply for ADC. There's no

shame in it; it's tax money you've paid for years, and now you need it.

ADC should cover the bases until your ex gets out, at which time they

will hold him liable for the monies they've paid you in his behalf and

will garnish his check for that and for your current support order. The

judge, in this case, will order him to get and keep a job (and probably

get the kids listed on his insurance at that job). He loses the job, he

goes back to jail. Just getting out of prison, staying out will be high

on his priorities list, I'll betcha. BTW, ADC will help you with a food

allotment (aka food stamps, unless your state has the EBT card like mine

does). Your child will also qualify for Medicaid thereby, which will

cover all treatments and therapies.

Good luck, and I hope this info helped you a bit.

Its probably called TANF now, was AFDC. Thats what im getting instead of child support (although no ones getting that right now, but the state is entitled to the arrears that accumulates while you are on the assistance, so basically you give up your montly amount of child support and then they give you money in exchange and food stamps).

You will have to participate in a special work program, unless your child has medical problems that keep you from obtaining safe and appropriate "daycare". You would have to show them a doctors note addressing this issue if you were to be exempt from the programs requriements. They will fight you on it, but there is a provision made for families in this position.

Most states now have an EBT Card, which is no different than the old food stamps. You have two accounts attached to the card and when you go to lets say walmart you just have to choose cash or food stamps. You can access the cash account at certain ATMS (here its wells fargo).

The medicaid is the biggie!!! Thats helped out so much with my son (although now because of budget cuts they have denied all his therapy and i have to argue with them, I think thats pretty much typical insurance companies though).

Wish you luck :)

Hi Lala

Welcome!! You can make many lovely dishes without a pressure cooker although in

time you might want to get one because they are very useful. You can get many

ingredients shipped and at cybermacro.com can help you find some of the

missing ingredients.

If you would like to check out my web site - www.celebrate4health.com - I think

you will find lots of interesting info and recipes that will help you get

started. I would suggest that you start to include new things into your diet

rather than cutting everything out and feeling a lack. This article is a brief

look at ways to begin - http://celebrate4health.com/healthystart.html

There are lots of wonderful people in this group and I am sure they will also

give you great suggestions and recipes.

Many blessings

There are alot of problems that are caused from being over weight. Diabetes is a

big one. Your joints suffer and your breathing sucks (like sleep apnea and

asthma)... things like that. You heart worked over time to pump blood to your

body parts. There is alot more here I haven't listed but I am sure you get the

idea. Hope this helps and good luck! My roommate is a guy as well and he is

taking this journey w/ me as well as my bf.

Yea, I know I am a guy, but I don't know who else to talk to, been

dealing with a lot of stress and things lately, and I am told I am

over weight for my height. 6'1 and weight around 278, just wondering

if it would cause some other problems for me.

high blood pressure (which affects your eyesight, kidneys, etc.) which makes it

'easier' to get other issues going ... you wear out your joints sooner - so

arthritis as well .. longer to recover from injuries / harder as well ..

Hey,

I'm a guy also and to tell you...mostly for us is heart complications rather

than anything else.

And diabetes is number two on our list rather than that anything else.

For you to be 6'1 and that weight, then start slowly and build up an intense

routine. So you walk for a week, power walk the next, jog the next and

eventually you will be running one lap one week, two the next, and so on.

Plus since we are guys, we burn a tad more than girls so that's always a plus.

Sorry ladies, don't mean to offend anyone.

But yeah, take in that heart problems are usually first and stress quickly

builds it up.

Got out of the hospitial today, found out either I have Chronn's or

IBS, both of which I am still trying to find some good diets that will

work for em and my high blood pressure. Due to the very fact that

either one of these conditions have set foods you can eat.. eat the

wrong things like I have been doing.

I am 21, and didn't feed all the facts the first time, healthy family

history wise.. but the power walks and the jogging seems to me like it

could also help my GI conditions as well.

I think you are fine to wait until next week. One week should not make a huge difference and you don't want to expose her to more x-rays than is necessary anyway. Where do you have her appt scheduled? Ortho or pediatrician? I would make sure you are seeing an ortho that specializes in INFANTILE scoliosis. Most specialize in adolescent which is very different. Ask the degree of curvature and make sure they measure the RVAD...an RVAD over 20 usually means it will progress. They should also recommend an MRI be done to make sure there aren't any other issues going on besides the scoliosis such as a congenital defect or tethered spinal cord. Personally, I would go to an ortho trained in the mehta technique of casting if she is determined to be idiopathic.

I know when you are worried it is hard to wait, but I would see a specialist rather than go to the ER where they probably aren't going to give much info other than to refer you to an orthopedist.

Hi All! Thank you for letting me become a member of this group. I have been researching the internet and I'm going nuts with all the information. My daughter is 7 1/2 months old and undiagnosed scoliosis. I type this because, she has a curve to the left, shoulder misplaced and ribs starting to protrude and her doctor's appointment is not until next week! (the app. was made last week) :(

I have noticed the arch more predominant and her favoring her one side. My question is: Should I take her to the ER so that 'something' can be done right away? That way, I'll still keep her dr app. so they can take another x-ray to see if it has progressed?

Like I said, I'm going nuts!

Then......once the x-rays are taken......what next? What questions should I be asking? I notice that I treat her like a doll now...am I strange? I should take her to the ER to rest my worries so that the healing process can begin.....

Any advice/mommy calming techniques are greatly appreciated! ! :)
