Guest guest
Okay, so 1. How often do you weigh yourself? Daily is WAY to often. Weekly is okay, bi-weekly is better. 2. Muscle weighs more than fat, so the scale may be decieving you. 3. Like my 401K guy keeps saying, You are in this for the long haul. The day to day stuff will fluctuate, especially at the beginning. Once you get everything into habit, things will smooth out. Guest guest
Wow Randy, that was quick! Good point, I never thought about not weighing. Would you be surprised if I told you I weigh at least twice a day. I have always felt this is an indicator that I am moving in the right direction. I think I will take your advice and quit weighing. Thanks!
Guest guest
Here's an interesting question on weighing... I know it shouldn't be daily, etc. What I am curious about though is over time I Have done both same day of week, weekly...and I have also experimented with daily.. How is it even possible that if I were to weight daily each morning before eating on the same scale that it would be so radically different (we're talking swings of anywhere from 1/2lb to 4 lbs here)? Truly I didn't gain 4 lbs overnight.... This is with consistent eating. I was wondering if anyone or even had some insights on this or could talk more about it on the list or in future podcast. It confounds me & can be very both deceiving and confusing...... Guest guest
I have noticed that I weigh more before I go to bed than when I wake up. Sometimes as much as 6 lbs.
Guest guest
Well I dont know what type of scale you are using, but I have been on scales that fluctuate a few pounds on back to back weighings. But also, so many things can affect your fluids and water weight. At night you tend to dehydrate. Some days you drink more water than others. Humidity, heat, so many things can affect that. > I have noticed that I weigh more before I go to bed than when I wake > up. Guest guest
I weigh myself first thing each morning, right after I go to the bathroom, naked. Once you start to eat and drink, you are weighing all that as well as yourself, so it never made sense to me to weigh myself during the day! If it is stressing you, then definately do not weigh more than once per week. One thing that hasn't been discussed as a factor in your weight not going down, is are you eating enough? If you increase your exercise and don't eat enough calories, your body will think it's starving and will hold on to every bit of fat it can. You should aim for a calorie deficit of around 500 calories per day. There are several sites where you can keep track of calories in and calories burned (www.fitday.com is the one I use, and it's free), so you can make sure you are eating enough. As has been commented on already, this is for the long haul, so losing 1 - 2 pounds pre week is good. >
