Guest guest
Not sure??? He had it very early on, but we didn't know any better. Neither pediatrician ever addressed it either. I just assumed it would get better as he started sitting up and moving more. Once he was diagnosed with scoliosis I learned about it. He never had any PT for it. He was evaluated, but nothing professional was needed. Give it time. 's did not go away immediately. Tasha, So do you think he just had it because he was compensating for his back? We have been doing PT but it hasnt really helped but we had to stop once the chiari was found. I thought once he got the cast it would be better and so did the therapist but it is more noticable now so i guess we need to address it more than we were. Shes only eight mnths old so I know shes has to get used to it but I cant help but think its crushing her!! They took xrays and they told me the doctor will call me next wk to discuss casting. Guest guest
, This is not going to help a lot, but my son had torticollis from birth. They (us) actually found it first and they started doing PT for it. That went great and he was getting better. During that time I noticed his back wasn't straight but they kept saying it was to compensate because of the neck (the other way around). Finally I convinced them to do the referral to the ortho and they found he had scoliosis. At that point, the torticollis was gone. Even now in the cast, his neck is straight. So I don't know what causes what and what comes first..??? But I think they are definately related. To: infantile_scoliosis Sent: Mon, October 5, 2009 7:19:58 PMSubject: Re: HELP!! Guest guest
, I totally agree they are related!! i just thought for sure his scoli was causing the tort. but i guess not. Funny thing is no one including us or the pedi caught it. The ortho guy did. So go figure!! We will see what the PT says tomorrow!! Guest guest
, Chloe also has torticollis. hers was pretty severe though and definitely noticable before the cast. we had gotten some improvement with PT though so I was upset when it was noticeably worse in the first cast. Her PT explained that she had been compensating for the curve and now that her spine was straight, her head was leaning more again while she got used to being straight. the good news is that once she adjusted to the cast, her torticollis looks better than it ever has. even her PT is amazed at how straight her neck is now!! so, i bet once Isaiah adjusts, he will straighten out again. xo Celeste (mom to Chloe, 27 months in Cast #3 from Chicago Shriners, also Chromosome 6q deletion syndrome) > > > From: melindalee95 <mindylee1verizon (DOT) net> > Subject: [infantile_scoliosi s] HELP!! > To: infantile_scoliosis @yahoogroups. com > Date: Friday, October 2, 2009, 11:57 PM > > > Â > > We were at Shriners today and Marly got her brace. Guest guest
It actually could be that way too, the truth is that our bodies try to compensate when they are out of balance. But I've seen mane babies around here with torticollis. It's good you are seeing a PT now, good luck! Guest guest
This just reminded me that Liam's torticollis got a lot better as soon as he started wearing the corrective helmet (plagiocephaly is also in the same list). The first couple of days it got worse, and suddenly I guess his muscles got stronger to support the hemlet, and the torticollis was gone. Like magic :-) To: infantile_scoliosis Sent: Mon, October 5, 2009 9:12:08 PMSubject: Re: HELP!! ,Chloe also has torticollis. hers was pretty severe though and definitely noticable before the cast. we had gotten some improvement with PT though so I was upset when it was noticeably worse in the first cast. Guest guest
Hi , Sorry it took so long.... We just got back from our trip to Rochester and I just read this.... Yes, Noelle's torticollis was present at birth and we never did PT for it.... She was evaluated by a physical therapist, but her case was mild enough that she was able to outgrow it on her own. You can get an evaluation to see if PT is needed and what kind of exercises they can do in that type of cast. Good luck and let me know! - Noelle's mommy, 2 1/2 years old and in 8th cast from Rochester NY, reflux, mild plagiocephaly, mild torticollos, hypotonia, ligament laxity, suspected Ehler's Danlos III From: melindalee95 <mindylee1verizon (DOT) net>Subject: [infantile_scoliosi s] HELP!!To: infantile_scoliosis @yahoogroups. comDate: Friday, October 2, 2009, 11:57 PM We were at Shriners today and Marly got her brace.
