Guest guest
Thanks for the hello from Dr. Dan Sun and Helen. He should be an expert in PA as he spent time training with me in LA. Please give them my email: lowerbp2@... so I can get a detailed update if they want.We used to live down the block from their parents in RPV.Be sure you get the DASH book if you have not. Looks like you got to the meat (WELL SALT0 of it by yourself. Did no one recommend it when PA was Dxed?CE I've just begun a 5-year regimen of anastrozole (Arimidex), an aromatase inhibitor, to help prevent recurrence of estrogen-positive breast cancer. Since this drug works by affecting hormones produced by the adrenals, I'm wondering if there are any potential adverse effects it might be expected to have on someone with hyperaldosteroniam ?? Could it affect my electrolite balance? By the way, Dr. Grim, my friends, Drs. Danny and Helen Sun send your their regard. Thanks so much for your help. Callie 64-year-old female diagnosed with PHA in May of 2009 after 6 trips to the emergency room with heart attack-like symptoms, high blood pressure, and low K. Nodules on both adrenals. Took 50mg spiro for two years before being diagnosed with breast cancer. Immediately discontinued spiro after BC diagnosis, and now control BP completely with high K, low Na diet. (Have learned that low Na is as important--if not more important--than high K in my diet.) Feel well and strong again after stopping the spiro. (The spiro controlled the BP, but I still had other symptoms that have stopped since stopping the spiro.) I take no other drugs except Arimidex. I take a few food supplements, e.g. calcium, Vit D, Aloe.
Guest guest
I'll give Danny and Helen your email address. They spoke very highly of you. I'm with my second endo doctor since diagnosis, and neither of them mentioned either diet in general or salt in particular. The only options presented were surgery or spiro. Thanks to your help on this web site, I learned about the DASH diet and started using it. I'm not perfect by far, but I do know a lot more than I did about what to eat and not to eat to keep feeling good. I hate to take any kind of drugs and really dread the aromatase inhibitor and what ill effects it might have (along with the potential beneficial effects.) I guess having PHA puts you in a constant learning situation. Guest guest
Callie, had your cancer become invasive? Did you have chemo, radiation, surgery? I had a bilateral mastectomy in January but no drug therapy was recommended. I had three spots of DCIS and a tiny 1.7 mm invasive. Mine was ER+ but I still use estrogen. My oncologist said my relapse chance is 3% with estrogen and 2% without. I'm willing to take that chance. I had my last reconstruction surgery earlier this month. I'm impressed that you're controlling BP with diet alone. Guest guest
It was invasive lobular and was multicentric (large). No lymph node involvement, however, and they got clean margins on left-side mastectomy. So no radiation or chemo called for. It was both estrogen and progesterone positive. Upon examination of the tissue, the pathologist thought I had already been taking treatment because the tumor was dying. I had not taken any prescribed medication, but had been taking high doses of Aloe for a month prior to the surgery (4 g per day of a concentrated powder from the inner leaf gel). She said that what she saw was "highly unusual in an untreated tumor". Needless to say, I am continuing the Aloe. Best wishes to you.
