I don't know what kind of 'special' snacks were on your kiddo's diet BUT I used small packets of the mini M & M's for my daughter. I gave her a few when she tickled and a whole packet when the big job came. Good Luck! Rosiejkbradl@... wrote:

Darla, wish we could use the watermelon, what a wonderful reinforcer that would be 'cause Owen loves it. But, of all things, he's allergic to it. About 30 minutes after eating it, he gets hives and itches all over Will have to think of something else. I wish Cheetos were on the GFCF diet

I have the same issue. My son will be 3 in Nov and I want to start training him as well, but he is just getting adjusted to his cast. I think I may wait until Dec or Jan, when he is in his second cast and more confident. The Dr says if I do it too soon during this cast process, he will just regress. So hang in there, I am totally with you on this dilemma. Let me know what your dr has told you regarding this. I potty trained Ian when he was in a cast and it was not a problem. You could start off by helping her with the underwear until she actually has the going potty in the toilet part down pat. That way you can concentrate on the most important part and then once she has that down you can focus on pulling down the underwear.

FYI, with both my daughter and son, I let them run around the house naked for potty training...worked like a charm.

We've started! LOL Noelle wouldn't use the floor potty at all, but will go on the insert that fits into our regular household toilet. A sticker chart made it much more fun for her! She can get up onto the potty now by herself, but has a very hard time pulling up or taking down her pants.... We have to help with that. She can wipe herself from the front but not the back. Now she's in pull-ups by day and diapers with a poise pad at night. She still has several accidents a day, but is getting there. She will be three in a couple of days and we had the same issue with pre-K3, so we have opted not to send her to school this year. I am "teaching" her at home and after our next casting in October we will enroll her in some type of art/ music/dance/class to get give her the chance to socialize with more

We potty trained in his cast. We waited a bit longer with him than we did with our other two children and that made a BIG difference. He was a little resistant at first,but saw that it was a good thing (tons of praise) and that we weren't going to go back to diapers. He was 3 and a couple months or so. He had been in a cast since he was 15 months so it was all he knew. I would suggest letting them get used to being in the cast. I helped him at fist getting his pants up and down (I do help him from time to time now- still) Being a boy, it is easier because he doesn't have to pull his pants down too far. When you start training I think you help them pull the pants up and down anyway...

Oh yeah, I bought him the training underpants because the waistband isn't quite so tight and not so hard to get up and down over the cast. They have them at Target.

Hope this made some sense. (I think I have been interrupted 25 times by different kiddos, some not my own)

Joan,I totally agree. He may need to wait for awhile. And nothing is wrong with that! Boys learn much later anyway. The boys were not ready until a few months after they turned 3. I can't begin to think how long it would have been if had been in a cast. Best of luck to you! I dreaded it so much, but it really went better than I expected. Waiting until after 3 helped a ton. They just "get it" more than the really young ones (at least in my experience). The underpants are in the toddler section of Target. I will check on the brand and let you know. Good luck with the second cast. Hope it goes well and you get correction. Hang in there. It is never dull, is it?
