Liv Update

My girl is so strong! She attended school for a couple hrs on Mon/Tues and is motoring all around the hospital with the adapted halo gravity traction walker (a must for ambulatory halo patients). She is up to 13 lbs and will go 2 lbs per day until we get to a third of her weight (54 lbs). We got bandages off, showered, etc....and she is really starting to look/act like herself, again. Ill post photos as soon as I can.

Please contine to pray that we can acheive great correction with this 3rd halo, prior to round 2 of surgeries.

Sorry, I cant get to all the posts. Please call me if you want, and Ill respond because my girl is on the mend.

Love,

HRH

I am so sorry to hear about the infection. You think the man upstairs would cut you a break already! Hang in there, we are all praying for you!! Bad news. Liv has developed an infection in the incision over her left iliac crest. She developed a fever yesterday at 11 am and by 7 pm we knew it was not a cold. A resident came in by midnight and we had to remove bandages, squeeze all the puss/blood out, and stick a swab in the open wound to get a proper culture, with no meds except valium and tylenol. Results should be in by tomorrow. She is on IV antibiotic that will address aerobic/anerobic infection/bacteria until we know what we are dealing with. We started this horrific process at midnight and it ended at 6 am. She screamed and cried in excruciating pain the entire time. It was the worst, most frightening experience we have ever had since diagnosis at 5 months old. It was the worst night of my life (and hers too). Tomorrow and weds she will have to go back into the OR for a thorough cleaning of the wound/infection. I have slept only 2 hrs in the last 2 days and

must get rest tonight, so I can care for my sweet girl for this next round. Please pray for my little girl. Please pray its not MRSA and that she can fight this infection. I know that if anyone can beat this, my child can. We will not be home the 1st week of Nov., but thats ok. We'll stay as long as needed, and I am grateful that we are here at Shriners with our doc.

I cant read posts, so I hope you and all the littles are doing great. Ill have post as soon as I know what is going on.

Oh , this is insane. There are bad unjust unfair things on this earth, and there is absolutely no purpose nor reason for Liv to be in that type of pain. None. I wish I could be there to just give you a hug. We're doing all we can here to send the most positive thoughts and prayers your way. She will make it through this a happy girl because of your love, dedication and commitment to her.

Much love,

P.S. Does she still like Keys? I've actually 'tweeted' for the first time to asking if there is anyway she could visit SLC shriner's (I didn't want to mention your name on twitter).

To the group: Does anyone have any connections/ contacts that could contact Keys?

- let me know if this is at all inapppropriate for you right now, but I thought a distraction like Keys would be so helpful to Liv!

Quick update:She is still in recovery, but her doc just came to give me the good news!!!!!!!! ! The wound looked great and there wasnt even any puss or drainage. They cleaned it thoroughly, did another culture and decided that it did not warrant a PIC line or wound vac!!! YAY!!!!!!! We still dont know if its MRSA, but I think NOT! My family and I are crying tears of joy....Im not sure when we will get culture results and obviously its some sort of staph, but it didnt go deep and I believe we have a fighting chance because we got most of it out the other night and started antibiotics immediately/ aggressively. Im on cloud nine for the moment and wanted to let you all know that things are looking up. She is going to be so happy about not having the PIC/wound vac. We are so lucky to be here at Shriners. I know that if we were not here, I may be fighting with ins. companies to actually get the wound vac (the gold standard for fighting major wound

infections)! I wish I had time to read posts, but you know how that goes.....Must love on my girl tonight and thank God/universe for watching over us again. The prayers are working and I am so grateful to everyone in our little CAST family. Ill post again as soon as results are in....Please keep praying.LOVE,Heath
