Hey there!

I have been married for 17 years, and have enjoyed a healthy and adventurous

sexual relationship with my wife the entire time. While she does have herself

checked every year as part of her annual physical, we have never really been

concerned about transference of the disease through sex. I would suggest you

get checked, but more to the point I would suggest you honor your partner for

having the strength of character to tell you.

Hep C is normally a blood-borne disease, and it normally needs direct

transference of blood to spread. There have been RARE cases where it was

tranfered

through other fluids, but these are few and far between. The doc told me that

my wife and I could have sex every day for the rest of our lives and the

chance for her to contract Hep C would still be to low to measure effetively.

So relax, get informed (there are some wonderful links on our group page),

both for your own piece of mind and for your partner, and get checked. Other

than that you have my admiration for being so open in a public forum. You have

a strength that will serve your girlfriend well should the relationship turn

serious. Hope this helps, and I'm glad you could join us!

Peace,

D

From everything I've read (which has been a *lot* lately, since I was

only recently diagnosed), it's only contracted from blood to blood

contact. So, unless you had open sores or actively bleeding gums, AND

she was also bleeding (or vice, versa)...the likelihood is very, very

small. But, it wouldn't hurt to get tested anyway.

The incidence of sexually transmitted Hep C is a statistical anomaly, in

other words, too small to even measure and may, indeed, be the result of faulty

self reporting. In any case, no doctor or researcher can rule it out 100% due to

professional liability and integrity issues. In any case, get tested simply

because, EVERYONE who has not been tested for a blood born disease that is

treatable should be as a matter of general good public health policy. (IMHO)
