Jenn,

My short term motivation is to make friends at the YMCA, where I work out. I

have befriended, casually, a few friends already. It is a wonderful outlet for

me, as I stay home with my sons and I desperately need adult conversation! What

works for you? Mine aren't body related yet an excellent way to get to my

fitness goals. It kind of distracts me into loving going to work out.

Motivators

I am trying to come up with some short and long term motivators and as

silly as it sounds, I can't come up with good short term toward

motivators. I'd be interested to hear what you all set as your toward

motivators.

Thanks,

Jenn

There are both kinds of motivators for each length of time. Here are

some examples, " away from " first:

Short term

- Eating this right now will give me bad indigestion

- Taking 5 minutes to meditate will center me for the upcoming meeting

Long Term

- I don't want to spend the rest of my life worrying about how many

stairs there are to climb when I want to go somewhere

- When I am free of food obsession, I will have so much more time to quilt

Short term toward motivators: Jeans, jeans and more jeans in many different

sizes. I started my weight loss journey at a size 22 and had jeans in sizes from

14-22 in my closet. Last May, I organized my closet (it was a mess) into each

size category. Then, as each size got too big, I donated them to charity. It's

even fun to work within each size because invariably, not all size 16 jeans are

the same size. One week a pair of jeans fit and 2 weeks later, they're getting

loose. I love that! I am thrilled to finally fit into my smallest size 16's now,

and I've only got one pair of size 14's in my closet that I fully expect to fit

into next month. After that, it's going to be shopping for new clothes a little

a time. I don't want to buy too many new clothes at each size because my

ultimate goal is a size 8.

I use daily short term motivators by setting an eating or exercise goal on paper

(I keep a food/exercise log), and at the end of the day or the next morning, I

review my effort and that keeps me motivated.

Bev - I love these ideas, especially the closet thing. Thanks for sharing.

My away from motivator is probably a very vain one. I'm motivated to

rid myself of my bat wings, back fat, spare tires, and generally

jello-ey body parts.

I'm using business success as my motivator. I craft handmade earrings,

and I have found that the Law of Attraction, Relaxed Intent are things

which have been helping me. If I promote my stuff here, the message

will probably be removed, but maybe you're interested in a website

where you can browse through my stuff? Send me an email.

The increased energy I get from exercising is a TOWARDs motivation,

and one that I can apply towards my hobby (and my livelihood)

Mine are jeans too. As I'm losing weight I get things inexpensively

from Old Navy as they run a little large so I feel like I'm changing

sizes a bit faster. These I incorporate with my normal clothes and

help keep me focused when I'm in between sizes. I keep 2-3 sizes out

and easy to get to so I can gage where I am. The rest of my clothes

are in plastic containers - medium, large, and XL except for my goal

skirt that I leave hanging where I can see it in the morning. My goal

is between a size 6 and 8 where I felt most comfortable in my body

before.

We also got one of those scales that does weight, bmi, and water. I

really like it as I focus on the bmi and water not the pounds. When

the bmi goes down and water goes up I get very excited.

I too have an entire wardrobe in a much smaller size than where I began. I can

already

wear a few things, and the rest I will get into shortly. However, it is not my

ultimate goal

size, so my plan is that once they start getting too big, I'm going to buy

jeans, etc. at

goodwill! I want to spend as little money as possible on clothes until I get to

the size I

really want to be.
