Guest guest
Hi Vickie, Micah also had trouble moving from room to room, this has gone away since starting lexapro, not sure if its the med, or things waning. He's been on it about 5 weeks I think. He was put on Clonidine for TS, but it made tics and OCD worse. When they put him on it they said we would need a separate med for OCD. He is now off Clonidine, and is on lexapro for OCD. But I've noticed that the Lexapro relaxes him, so it helps the tics. He still has them, but he's not as stressed, so they arent as bad. Does anyone know if Clonidine will help with this OCD stuff, or from experience will he need some type therapy to help or possible another type medication. Any suggestions? We are not getting enough sleep either, It takes him a long time to get to bed with all the circle turning and touching things, walking back and forth. Guest guest
Hello, I just heard from my son's doctors office. His doctors medical assistant just called me and said that the doctor wants me to go ahead and make an appointment with the child psychiatrist that they recommended. She told me that Clonidine will help with tics, but not OCD. I will leave him on the dose that he is taking until I find out from the new doctor what to do. They would not let me increase the dose of clonidine because that is not what he needs. So, I have to make an appointment. I dread his getting on drugs because I know what Adderall done to him, it made him develope tics and they did not go away once I stopped the medicine. I myself take Zoloft now, and I have took Paxil, Prozac, Luvox, and Ativan. There are many other drugs my doctors tried to get me to take, but the antidepressants can make you feel weird and strange and disconnected. I have been on Zoloft for about 10 years and I won't come off because the withdrawals are terrible. I just dread trying different drugs for him. Please pray for me whoever reads this!!! Guest guest
I will say a prayer, Vickie. I sure understand your concerns, and they are valid. I've reacted horribly to antidepressants and other meds, so always approach them with caution. When our son was so disabled by the OCD that we felt we HAD to try meds, I hid, cried, and prayed, every day, while waiting to see what they did to him. Amazingly, they normalized him. They gave him his life back, to a point that he was able to function again. And this time (2nd time on meds after being off for 8 months and having a horrible relapse), he was able to bring it under control enough to be able to work on his OCD using CBT/ERP. Which helped even more with the OCD. I hope your experience with meds is as helpful as our was.
