Hi, (and everyone)-

I'm new to the group, too. I just discovered Inside Out Weight Loss

last week. I've listened to the first 3 podcasts, and really like

what I've heard so far.

I sporadically track my food at SparkPeople.com. It's a free website

with a lot of food fitness- and health-related content. I track my

fitness there, too, and belong to some community fitness teams there.

What I know is that when I am consistently tracking my food eaten, I

eat better. And I will go through phases of doing it regularly. But

then I reach a rebellion with myself, almost as if part of me is a

small child and another part an adult. " No, I don't want to write

down every bit of food that I put in my mouth! You can't make me! "

It really does make a difference for me, though, when my inner adult

wins out over the inner child. :o)

Hi ,

I'm also new to the group. Regarding food tracking, I like fitday.com;

it's free and I can do it from home or at work. It allows you to

create foods - I like Cafe Vienna which is not in their list of foods

but adding it was easy. I also like that it tracks the fats, proteins

and carbs throughout the day. I don't currently log food but do and

have logged exercise for the past 12 years and when I look back I see

some amazing trends that would be hard to pick up if I hadn't logged

them. Like, I slack off every summer which picks up again in Oct and

then slack off during the holidays, make a New Year's resolution just

in time to slack off again during summer. EVERY YEAR for 12 years. So

now I have to look for ways to stay motivated during the summer months

and holidays. I think can help.

I started listening to the podcasts about 3 weeks ago. Something

amazing happened when I drove to Colorado to spend a week with my

mother (who is a sugarholic). I was terrified to get on the scale when

I got home but have lost 7 lbs since I started listening. I joke with

my husband that has hypnotized me! It has been so easy to stay

away from those sweets my mom offered and ate during my visit. I look

forward to listening to her every day.

Thanks,

Hi Jill,

>> almost as if part of me is a small child and another part an

in my mouth! You can't make me! " It really does make a difference

for me, though, when my inner adult wins out over the inner child. :o)

I, and many other people, have the same internal experience! Louise

Hay recommended this book highly:

http://www.amazon.com/Self-Parenting-Complete-Guide-Inner-

Conversations/dp/094205525X/ref=sr_1_3?

ie=UTF8 & s=books & qid=1221243710 & sr=8-3

And I can confirm it's great. I'm focusing on doing it consistently,

and find my rebellion coming on. Though it's been a wonderful

process to get into communication with it, accept it, and learn how

to move towards win/win conversations with my inner child and inner

parent. Maybe it can be useful for you as well?

Hi and everyone,

There is a resource called JoesGoals.com which is an easy to use

habit tracker and logger. It has a free membership, as well as a

paid membership, and works great.

We can do it,

Mike

Hello ,

I like to use MyPlate, which is part of the Lance Armstrong LiveStrong

site.

It's great because you can save your commonly eaten items, there are

tons and tons of commercial foods on the database " Trader Joes Light

EggNog "

Also it has lots and lots of different exercises- walking at 3.5mph,

or shovelling snow, etc.

Best of all, it tracks changes in weight, calorie intake, exercise etc

over time with nifty graphs.

Lots of features you can personalize

http://www.thedailyplate.com/users/myplate/

best of luck to you. I track this stuff about 50% of the time. Lately

it's been kind of depressing, so I'm going back to the IOWL and taking

notes this time.

this is not an online tracking program, but if you have an iPhone or

for anyone out there who does and wants to track their calories and

exercise, the best application I have found so far is called Lose It.

it's completely free, very easy to use and has an extensive database

of foods, so you just type in what you've eaten and it will add up the

calories. you start by putting in a goal weight and current weight,

height, etc. and it will recommend a daily calorie goal which you can

adjust if you want. then as you input foods and exercise minutes it

tells you how many calories you have left for the day, what you've

burned, etc. and you can also view your progress by week.

I've used quite a few apps for this purpose, both free and not, and

this is absolutely the best one that I have found so far!

Hello !

Last year I tracked the fat and calories in absolutely everything that

I ate. It worked very well for me, and I lost about 15-20 lbs. The only

thing is that it became a bit of an obsession, and I could not eat

anything without running to the computer to figure out the calorie

count. So I would recommend it to see what you are really consuming,

but there are always extreme situations that you should try to avoid.

Like everything else in life, moderation is the key!
