Guest guest
I'm going rounds with doctors treating my Mom right now regarding Seroquel. She has been on it for approximately six weeks. A few days ago I saw her drooling, her head tilted to the left and rigid and also rigidity in her arms. Took her to the ER. They found she had a UTI and feel this is what cause they symptoms I was seeing. However, I have seen these symptoms in Mom before when she was having an adverse reaction to the psychotropic/neuroleptic medications. I had the hospital hold Mom's Seroquel yesterday afternoon and last night because the admitting doc had triple the dose. I guess my concerns fell on deaf ears. I saw Mom today and although she is sleeping most of the time I could see that the rigidity has lessen significantly. They put her Seroquel dose back to what it was. I will watch real closely to see if these symptoms occur and go from there. Others have written about Seroquel too. You can check in the archives. Guest guest
Mai-Liis Do you find that it makes your husband sleep a lot? Mariea
Guest guest
My family doctor would see Mom at least every four weeks. Now that she is in the nursing home, I believe her new family doctor sees her once a week. I would think that you would want your Mom followed-up more then her doc is doing. Guest guest
My husband was started on 25mg. Seroquel last year, then upped very gradually to 100mg. (25mg. at a time) One month after being on 100mg. at bedtime, the hallucinations went away and stayed away for the most part. Now I backed him to 75mg., with good results. Mai-Liis could somebody give me information regarding thier experience with seroquel please. many thanks john
Guest guest
He is much more alert on the 75mg than he was on 100. He takes it at night.....and ANYTHING is better than hallucinations! He used to spend most of the night arguing with the people in his room. Mai-Liis Mai-Liis Do you find that it makes your husband sleep a lot? Guest guest
Sorry, no experiences with seroquel here. Dad is on Exelon and had good results with that. Great to see you in here, take care! Sandie Des Moines, IA
Guest guest
When my mom started taking Seroquel early on right before the diagnosis she started hallucinating and was very rigid. She could barely move. The doctor changed to Risperdal and she seems to do better with it. That was about 8 months ago. However she has days now where she can barely put one foot in front of the other and I am not sure if we should ask the doctor to change medication or what. Don't know if this will help but good luck . Also does anyones loved one have regular visits to the neurolgist? Or the recular doctor for that matter. I would have thought that after 8 months her doctor would have requested to see her? ......Shirley > >Reply-To: LBDcaregivers >To: LBDcaregivers >Subject: seroquel >Date: Sat, 20 Jul 2002 18:58:38 -0000 > >could somebody give me information regarding thier experience with >seroquel please. > >many thanks >john > _________________________________________________________________ Join the world’s largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com
Guest guest
That's the problem with this damned disease. Everyone has different reactions. Shirley, Jack goes to the neuro at least every 4 months. They want to monitor his meds closely..... Guest guest
, My husband started on exelon and we added seroquel about a month later (25 mg at night, was increased to 25 mg am and pm). When we figured out the arthritis meds were causing part of the hallucination problem, we were able to decrease the dose. Eventually I was cutting the 25 mg tablets in half; then later on was able to stop the seroquel. Shirley, I put my husband on a monthly schedule with his primary dr and every other month to see his neurologist. My husband has heart meds as well as LBD meds - I just set a schedule that worked for us and both of these drs are part of our support system. ~lula
Guest guest
Shirley In the beginning, when my dad was first diagnosed and living in his apartment I used to take him to see his neurologist...now living in a nh he hasn't seen a neurologist for almost 3 yrs. I do still call him especially when there are major changes. There is a doctor that oversees the residents at the nh and visits weekly...she is a family practitioner. The doctor has recommended a neuro-psychiatrist to also help with my dad and his meds. so this has been going on for about 4 weeks. Nice to see you in here Shirley, and I hope life is treating you well. Sandie
Guest guest
Seroquel did the same to my daughter, and a friend of mines daughter also. If you decide to try it start out at a 1/4 dose, and that way if she reacts badly, it might not be as bad. Just my humble opinion!!!!!!!!! Guest guest
Yes that is why it is that there is no right or wrong in meds to people of ASD as we find we are justs a uniquely different in this areas as we are alike in others. Guest guest
well, she definitely slept through the night! after giving it to her the first three nights she has gone to sleep within about 30-45 minutes after taking it and has not been up in the middle of the night once! (sleeping from about 9 til about 7:30-8:00) as far as melt downs..... i am not sure i see any difference in the number of melt dowsn she is having. and when she does have one i wonder now (because of all the bad stories i hear on here) if it's because of the med! i cant say the behavioral outflows have been any more or less extreme. and i cant say that she would not have had them without the med. i did make a mistake though!!!!!!! on thursday morning i also started her on concerta she took it thursday and seemed to do ok in school. friday she was referred to the office for " being oppositional and refusing to do her work " (and of course christine couldnt communicate with me about why she was sent to the office) (15 minutes later.... after a melt down) ..... over not wanting to wear her coat... it is bitter cold outside! not wanting to wear her coat led into not wanting to ride the bus then not wanting to go to school, not having any friends on the bus then hating her life. (but... this is a normal melt down for us in the morning) cant say the meds made it worse and definitely cant say they made it any better! got any calgon? Guest guest
Is seroquel used for sleep disturbances? Our daughter still gets up around midnight (we have tried everything suggested thus far) and at least she stay asleep, but she moves from her bed, attempts to get into ours (we recently have managed to keep her out) so she sleeps on our floor, or gets up and goes to the couch only to return to our room. She is 4. Regina ________________________________ From: barbziegler125@...
