Guest guest
, On your post you said with the sleep disorder called Narcolepsy, that people see things. My son tell me that he sees black things espcially right before bed or when the lights are off for a few minutes. He has seen things gray and white colored that move. I don't know what to make of this. He is OCD, with tourette's and ADHD. I have never seen anything, so this is just weird to me. One day he came home and walked into the kitchen and he said a grayish black thing ran from the dinning room towards his room. He won't sleep in his room either. He is a teenager and I know that he is not making this up. ;Help from anyone??? Vickie in Ga Subject: Re: " voices " ? I think your explanation to your son was great. My oldest daughter, really does hallucinate. She has narcolepsy and sometimes people with this sleep disorder do see things right before they fall asleep or right as they wake up. We told Hannah for years that she was seeing things because of her OCD and she always told us she didn't think that was it. Turns out she was right Kelley in NV ************ **New year...new news. Guest guest
HI Vickie, I'm wondering if the " seeing things " comes more from the anxiety? My son reports seeing things also. He was out in the yard yesterday as it was just starting to get dark and came in saying he saw dark shapes behind the trees, and sometimes he'll say he saw ,or sees, people go by him. He is diagnosed with OCD and Bipolar, and sometimes people with Bipolar have psychosis. I have not been diagnosed with Bipolar, only OCD and Panic disorder, and I see things too. Lots of shapes, etc, for example , if I'm in the laundry room, I may see " someone walk down the hallway " out of the corner of my eye, and sometimes when I walk downstairs, I see black in the top of my vision. When I get into bed, after I turn out the lights , I think I see shapes also. I know this sounds bizzarre, but my psychiatrist said lots of stress , and/or anxiety can do this. ________________________________ To: Sent: Wednesday, January 7, 2009 2:08:27 PM Subject: Re: seeing things , On your post you said with the sleep disorder called Narcolepsy, that people see things. Guest guest
, It could be anxiety, not sure. I am looking for a child psychiatrist and therapist or psychologist. I would like to find out why he sees these black forms. I know that normal people do not understand these type things, so I usually don't mention them. My son says they scare him and they are creepy, but he is not terrified. I myself am bipolar and have ocd with anxiety, along with a moodswing disorder, and I take Zoloft for panic attacks. I know that my son got this mess from me. I never knew that people with these disorders could see things. That does explain alot. Thank you so much for sharing with me. Guest guest
It's a bit unnerving, isn't it? My youngest daughter used to also " see things " as well as hear voices. She would refuse to enter a room because of vampires or elephants or witches she swore were there. She could tell me, however, that she knew they weren't really there and that they were scary thoughts she was having. She said the thoughts were so vivid that it was just like seeing the things in front of her. As her treatment for OCD continued, the seeing and hearing things went away. My other daughter, the one with OCD and Narcolepsy, sees images as she is falling asleep and as she is waking up. There is a word for it and I can't remember it right now but it is because of the narcolepsy. It doesn't happen at any other time for people with narcolepsy--it is connected to the sleep cycle. Hannah has uncontrolled sleep cycles and will go into REM sleep at the wrong times. She falls asleep in school, especially during tests. She is also hard to wake up in the mornings and has to take naps at different times during the day. She takes medication for it--Adderall and a sleeping medication (narcoleptics ironically have trouble sleeping at the right times!) There is never a dull moment at our house! My uneducated guess would be that your son is expressing some sort of OCD fear or thought to you. Good luck--Kelley in NV **************New year...new news.
