The dreams were almost surreal - I remember really getting into them. And he most unusual part is that I rarley have nightmares - in my entire life. Guest guest
My son's psychiatrist said we could give him 1.5-3mg of melatonin at night. It works great!! He is also on Prozac. _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Sent: Sunday, January 04, 2009 11:50 AM To: Subject: Sleep issues My son who will be 6 March 1st is for the first time in his life is having sleep issues. This past week he has been refusing to go to bed, then when he does he finds any and every excuse to stay up. He is on 25mg of Zoloft. But sleep has never been an issue even when he started the med. He has been on it about 11 or 12 weeeks I think. This morning after having been up till at least 10:30 he was at my bed at 6 am wanting to give me a picture he just made! He never went back to sleep. I got home from work at midnight and am sooo tired. I think he may be nervous as school starts tomorrow but he says he just isn't tired. He gets exercise during the day (his dad and he went for a walk through the snowy woods yesterday-a long and tiring walk). Any ideas on how to get him to sleep? he is also in a very defiant " i;m gonna do what I want " phase like I have never seen. Shouldn't he just crash as his bodily needs take over? This is affecting my time with my hubby as well as me need for just a little personal time. Maybe we just had it too good, as sleeping was the one thing he would do even when everything else was falling down around us. I have told him to stay in his room, etc. Doesn't work. Guest guest
Hi, . Is the Zoloft new for him? The SSRIs can cause insomnia, as a side effect, for some, and sleepiness, as a side effect, for others. Our son developed insomnia as a side effect, so the doctor recommended giving him his medication in the morning instead. I don't know how much that helped, truly, He took Children's Benadryl for years to help him sleep. That eventually pooped out and just didn't work as well, so we switched to Melatonin, which seems to be working better. Guest guest
Well he has been on it for 12 weeks or so now and never had any issues until this past week.He takes it in the morning but it doesn't seem to make a difference (when he first started he took it at night, we changed it so I could be the one giving it to him 7 days a week and some nights I work). He can't have benadryl as it makes him hyper. I am hoping this is a time limited response to vacation and school starting up again but I don't know. It is odd as usually he will only do stuff for me but he even stays up when I am at work and hubby is with him so I know I am not playing into this at least. I hope he sleeps tonight or he will be extremely difficult after school tomorrow! -- In , " svdbyhislove " wrote: > > Hi, . Is the Zoloft new for him? Guest guest
Hi , My son developed what the doctor called middle insomnia while taking Prozac. He eventually (late) went to sleep and the was up at 4:30 or so. I don't think it happened immediately. From what I remember he was on it for about 3 months when we had to discontinue it because of the insomnia problem. Benadryl wakes my kids up. Ambien kept my son up. Didn't try melatonin. ________________________________ To: Sent: Sunday, January 4, 2009 6:54:19 PM Subject: Re: Sleep issues Well he has been on it for 12 weeks or so now and never had any issues until this past week.He takes it in the morning but it doesn't seem to make a difference (when he first started he took it at night, we changed it so I could be the one giving it to him 7 days a week and some nights I work). Guest guest
My son is now 9, has been taking strattera and prozac for two years now. He was never good at going to sleep at night, always had a hard time falling asleep and getting out of bed constantly. He now takes 1mg of melatonin about 15 mins before he goes to bed and I no longer here a peep from him. He goes right to sleep and actually sleeps through the night.
