Guest guest
Don't worry , everything will all work out for the best. I am sure ish Rite won't send you home after casting until Isaiah is stable and the cast is fitting just right. To: infantile_scoliosis Sent: Thursday, August 6, 2009 6:13:59 PMSubject: Moving to Kansas right after casting! help! Hi all,So i just found out today that my husband is being transferred with his job from where we live now in Texas to Kansas. We are origionally from Ks so this wouldnt be so bad but for the location and the timing. We are going to Independence Ks which is in the middle of nowhere close to the OK border. Isaiah is due to get his 1st cast on Sept 28th and then we are suppossed to move Oct 1st!! He is also having his chiari surgery this month so he will be healing from that too. I did find out that ish Rite will still see us as a patient, you just have to be a Tx resident to get in, but once your in, your in. We will have a 6 hr drive every 2 months in winter weather for a cast change. Anyway, we wont be any where near a big city if something goes wrong with anything, like his cast. What should i do if something goes wrong? What do i look for if something might be wrong with his cast? Im just freaking out right now and rambling so please some advice/support/ help! Thanks, mom to Isaiah 11 mos old 46 degree curve 1st cast Sept 28th

Guest guest
Sorry Tasha, my post may have been a little misleading. I certainly had the option of staying a 3rd night but didn't. We had to get there the day before casting to meet with the docs and get x-rayed. The next morning was casting. We left the following afternoon (day 3), however we almost didnt because we were having a lot of casting issues--or rather, I was. I think I was just freaking out that Marci wasn't sitting up and was crying so much, that I had it in my head that the cast was too tight. I brought it up to EVERYBODY that passed by our room! Even the cleaning lady at one point started checking Marci out just to appease me. Anyway, point being, they told me that we could stay another night to see if we felt more comfortable waiting it out. We didn't need to though because the muscle soreness started wearing off and we could tell she felt better. I think the hospital was willing to work with us since we were coming from out of town. LOVE that place. SAD that is leaving ish, but glad you're still there(: Dianna -- In infantile_scoliosis , Tasha Fontenot wrote: > > Sorry to but in, , I'll send you another message about leaving us here in Texas. > Dianna, why do y'all stay for 3 days after casting? Just curious??? > > Tasha > Mommy of 4 year old twin boys- and > Fort Worth, Texas > Series of 6 casts for 14 months and now in a night brace. > is treated at Texas ish Rite Hospital. > You can read 's story at.... > http://www.infantilescoliosis.org/stories.html > > > > > > > > > Subject: Re: Moving to Kansas right after casting! help! > To: infantile_scoliosis > Date: Thursday, August 6, 2009, 7:09 PM > > > > > > >  > > > > > > ! Guest guest
Hays was around 19 or 20 thou people 20 years ago, so not a lot of people move there and not a lot of people leave. A lot of good people in KS., though, but I don't know your new town! Guest guest
Hi Joan, Moriah has two malformed vertebrae. T8 and T10 if I remember correctly. That skewed her growth from the start. Plus, I have always thought that having her sternum cracked at 2 weeks old added to that growth pattern. I was also told that congenital heart defects are often paired with another defect-her's being her spine. shellie From: melissa <missikay10yahoo (DOT) com>Subject: [infantile_scoliosi s] Moving to Kansas right after casting! help! To: infantile_scoliosis @yahoogroups. comDate: Thursday, August 6, 2009, 6:13 PM Hi all,So i just found out today that my husband is being transferred with his job from where we live now in Texas to Kansas. Guest guest
Just wanted to say that no one has ever been mean to Moriah. She wore TLSO's when she was little and has always had a prominent rib hump. I think her smile dazzled them too much and they looked past the other stuff. I have seen boys around her age lately looking at her back at the pool and talking. Not mean, just discussing. She didn't notice them doing it. A swim suit can't hide all she's been through and I wouldn't want to hide it anyway. It is a part of who she is. We've taught her to just politely and quickly explain in simple words to anyone who asks. We'll see how middle school goes. Once when she was 5 she was wearing her TLSO under a flowered sweatshirt. A boy at the doctors office asked her what was that on her back (meaning her rib hump). She looked at him sweetly and said "flowers??" like she wasn't sure what his problem was. Funny thing was he had a cast on his arm. I took him aside and explained to him and his Mom who saw the whole thing. shellie grant> > From: diannapiquet <diannapiquet@ ...>> Subject: [infantile_scoliosi s] Re: Moving to Kansas right after casting! help!> To: infantile_scoliosis @yahoogroups. com> Date: Thursday, August 6, 2009, 7:09 PM> > > > > > > > > > > > > ! Guest guest
Thank you for that info Shellie. My son has a congenital heart defect as well, it is stable. But our Ortho at ish still thinks his Scoli is Idiopathic. I need to add this to my question list when we go in two weeks. What kind of Heart Defect does Moriah have? Hayden has Mitral Valve Stenosis. They wanted to repair it at 1 month but then the pressure gradient started to decrease and has been at low numbers ever since. But they still say surgery may be in his future. Thanks for listening Joan To: infantile_scoliosis Sent: Friday, August 7, 2009 7:41:00 AMSubject: Re: Moving to Kansas right after casting! help! Guest guest
Good for you Shellie. You are a great mother and your daughter sounds like a happy confident young girl. I hope I can handle questions and stares and stuff. I am such a mother lion when it comes to my kids, as I am sure all you ladies are as well. She wore TLSO's when she was little and has always had a prominent rib hump. I think her smile dazzled them too much and they looked past the other stuff. I have seen boys around her age lately looking at her back at the pool and talking. Not mean, just discussing. She didn't notice them doing it. Guest guest
I'm going to jump in too. 's scoliosis was determined to be congenital due to her hemivertabrae and the cervical compression in her neck. A person is diagnosed with Congenital Scoliosis, as opposed to Idiopathic (no known cause), when there are malformations with the actual bones involved. Dr. Winter of the Minnesota Spine Center, Minneapolis, and a Founder and past President of the Scoliosis Research Society gave this information: http://www.scoliosis.org/resources/medicalupdates/congenital.php now, reading through the whole article, it is horribly out of date with regards to the different types of surgery that can and are being performed on children with Congenital Scoliosis. Looks like I need to write a letter!! Guest guest
My Kansas experience was really ideallic, it was a time when no one in town locked their doors- no crime to speak of. My Dad was the local college Drama professor and we got to play the kid's roles in his plays, which put us in the local newspaper. We had a lot of pot luck picnics and explored in a park nicknamed Buffalo Park, it had real Buffalo in it. It was before my parent's divorce and the usual ripping apart of the family in tears, so I remember it as a golden, innocent time, mostly. Every time I got straight A's in elementary school (every year, until I discovered boys), I got to go to a fast food restaurant (my pick was Long Silvers ; ) I loved New Orleans for different reasons, but it never felt like I belonged there. When I moved to CA, it felt like it was where I was meant to be. Geographically correct! ; ) Thanks for asking.Heidi, Bexon's Mama, (2 years old, in 3rd cast from Salt Lake City Shriners, currently down from 61 degrees to 25) From: melissa <missikay10yahoo (DOT) com>Subject: [infantile_scoliosi s] Moving to Kansas right after casting! help! To: infantile_scoliosis @yahoogroups. comDate: Thursday, August 6, 2009, 6:13 PM Hi all,So i just found out today that my husband is being transferred with his job from where we live now in Texas to Kansas. Guest guest
We're very spoiled by the weather in CA! Sunshine almost every day of the year, a little rain (rarely), and you can go to the beach anytime. We don't go much because of casts/water/sand, but we do occasionally eat at a beachside cafe and look out at the ocean. I love it.Heidi, Bexon's Mama, (2 years old, in 3rd cast from Salt Lake City Shriners, currently down from 61 degrees to 25) From: melissa <missikay10yahoo (DOT) com>Subject: [infantile_scoliosi s] Moving to Kansas right after casting! help! To: infantile_scoliosis @yahoogroups. comDate: Thursday, August 6, 2009, 6:13 PM Hi all,So i just found out today that my husband is being transferred with his job from where we live now in Texas to Kansas.
