Guest guest
Yes but one has to be truly prudent and not merely calculating or cautious -- even as merely a scientific/medical proposition. I fear as a group, at least among Catholics (and I count myself guilty of it in part), that we have been way too meek, or maybe the right word is timid? We may have an awful lot of scientific data and truth of all kinds on our side, some merely rational but no less convincing than the empirical data, and we fear asserting it sometimes, maybe for fear of experiencing the wrath of the pro-contraceptive prejudice, or some other fear. Maybe we should think about changing that now, especially given the clearcut signs of the times we are in. Just saying... Sincerely yours, Dominic M. Re: case against hormonal contraception ph, You bring up a good point, but it would be good if you elaborate a little further. I suppose your line of reasoning might be: If a contraceptive is developed with few or no side effects would contraception be acceptable. Please tell us your thoughts. For this reason you seem to assert, and in light of Church teaching, I think we should argue: 1. Human life is a gift; pregnancy is not an illness. Contraceptives are not preventive health care. 2. Contraceptives falsifies the language of love; they enable persons including spouse to use one another. 3. Contraceptives create a culture of abortion, and also cause abortion when ovulation is not impeded. 4. Hormonal contraceptives have many serious side effects on the health of women such as stroke and increased breast and cervical cancer. Thank you, Fr. -- Fr. R.
