Subject: Re: EN-DE side-biting clamp: Satinsky-Klemme

Hi, Ulrike.

My German surgeon buddy says the German term is " Satinsky-Klemme " . Hope

this is of benefit to you, despite the delay.

Best regards

Coilín.

Ulrike,

A Satinsky clamp is only one of a range of vascular clamps and comes in all

shapes and sizes. Often these names differ between hospitals. Perhaps

describing it as a side -.biting vascular clamp would be the best option.

Sorry I don't speak German but for what it's worth in Holland we describe it

as " zijwaarts gebogen "

Best wishes,

Daphne Visser-Lees (OR nurse)

a satinsky clamp is simply an atraumatic clamp (meaning the jaws of the

clamp are configured as not to tear the tissues - " traumatic "

instruments have teeth that bite into the tissue).

their shape and soft rachet makes them useful for vascular surgery - you

can judge very carefully how much clamping force you want to apply.

the " side-biting " refers to the form of the clamp: its deeply U-shaped

so you can clamp a vessel sideways, without obstructing the lumen.

http://www.surgical911.com/ comes with small pictures. not very useful

for very technical texts, but it'll give you an idea what the thing

looks like.
