Well I think I have lurked long enough and now I will ointroduce myself.

My name is Randall Hall. I am 36 and badly overweight. I recently went

to the doctor's office and the scale didnt go higher than 350.

Growing up, my mom was divorced and my dad never sent any child support

so my mom struggled to take care of five kids on her salary alone. As I

grew older, two things really set in some deep habits for me. One, my

mom became successful and as kids grew up and left home (I was the

baby), she bought all of those things we had done without for those

years. So food became abundantly available.

Second was I began developing severe pain in my heels after doing any

signifigant walking or running. It took multiple trips to the doctor to

discover that I had holes in my heel bones that had not yet grown shut.

Even after being diagnosed, I wasnt given the proper heel cushions

until at least a year later. So all this time, I " learned " that walking

and running was bad. It hurt.

So every year I got less and less exercise and fatter and fatter. I

never acknowledged the seriousness of the situation. The scale thing

was a big turning point. Buying clothes had always been difficult, but

I was entering a totally new category of fat.

I realize that losing weight isnt about studying nutrition or a battle

with the fat. The only way to win this battle is through the mind. I

love the podcasts and I look forward to evicting this excess baggage.
