Guest guest
We give an NFP intro talk regularly to engaged couples, and personally I find it necessary to mention some “specifics”. They want to know exactly what it is that we’re asking them to do. I give a short explanation of the hormones and how they influence the woman’s mucus pattern so that they understand the scientific explanation of it and thus can accept and believe the high effectiveness. Then I let them know “on any given day” what you have to do to observe your signs (“everytime you go to the bathroom, wipe, look for mucus, note what is there or isn’t”) then explain that it takes a total of about 2-5 minutes per day. I think they appreciate the honesty so they don’t think that I’m trying to hide something about it. But I don’t get much more specific than that. I think the Rockville video is excellent, but my only beef with it is that I didn’t like them showing pictures of mucus…I felt that was a little too much specifics for an intro talk, and could put some off. Just my personal opinion, others could disagree. I’m not sure it would be necessary to have them watch something beforehand, but I am about to add a video into my talk, partly just to break things up a bit and wake them up if I’ve lost them. We also include a personal witness, and I think it’s the most important piece. Here’s a short video I found recently that I enjoyed. It doesn’t mention NFP specifically, but it is a nice one to get one thinking about what love really means. It’s about 6 minutes long. http://www.vimeo.com/14241671 lauren fuller – NFP coordinator, Northwest family services.
