Guest guest
I have a patient with polyarthropathy that is on prednisone therapy (moderate dose) and under reasonable but not perfect control. Her owner is very concerned about the atrophy of her masseter and temporalis muscles which happened as a result of high dose prednisone therapy. The atrophy is moderate to severe, but she is not painful (no myositis) and perfectly functional (TMJ mobility good. To date I have seen many of these (prednisone therapy) patients resolve generalized muscle atrophy, but have never had much success restoring the temporalis and masseter muscles. I spoke to a colleague who had used local points (depressions) within the area of muscle loss to treat a patient with mild (non- prednisone related) atrophy. Has anyone had success with returning muscle mass in a " pred head " patient (with acupuncture or any other modality)? Guest guest
you can try the "bumpers" / "dummies" that are available in catalogues that have equipment for training retrievers. They come in a couple different diameters. The dog may chew on it if you play with him and get him to mouth it, or you might put some peanut butter etc on it. Repeat about 6 times per day. Owner could easily do this at home after instruction.
