Hi All,

I am treating a 9 yo mixed breed dog, she is about 45 pounds, HBC 7

weeks ago and is s/p right FHO. She was last seen by the surgeon at

s/r 2 weeks p/o and referred to PT. She has been treated in PT for 4

weeks and is still toe touch weight bearing at best. She puts her

right hind down in standing(PWB), but is NWB-TDWB while ambulating.

She has significant atrophy in the RHL and limited hip extension - 140

degrees. I am treating the dog at the owners home so I do not have

access to modalities or treadmill. Her treatment plan consists of the

following: heat, massage to hip flexors/quads/adductors, cross

friction to hip flexors, joint compressions, ROM, stretching, downward

compressions in standing, balance board, cavaletti rails, figure 8's,

weight shifting w/front limbs on a ball, diagonal FL and HL lifts, and

dancing. For some of the therex I use a counter irritant to encourage

weight bearing. The owner is doing leash walks, stretching, massage

and other exercises. Any other suggestions?

Does anyone know of a good portable estim unit (or a company that

rents them out)?

Thanks,

Luchini, PT, CCRP
