if i were you i would insist on the head MRI because my sons only presenting problem was the scoli and they found a chiari malformation they would not have found w/o the head MRI. Insist on it!!!

I did talk to the doctor about that and he seemed to think that in cases like Cole's where the only presenting problem was the scoliosis and everything else was completely normal he didn't find that the head MRI was necessary. I guess I don't understand why we wouldn't just do both but he seems pretty convinced that it is unnecessary. I will mention it again when we see him on Friday which is a few days before the MRI.Jenn Mommy to Cole, 19 months, 1st cast from rochester, 17 degrees down from 46, waiting 2nd casting on August 7th, 1st MRI August 12th> > > From: genericallyloud <jennifer.leggett@ ...>> Subject: [infantile_scoliosi s] First MRI> To: infantile_scoliosis @yahoogroups. com> Date: Sunday, August 2, 2009, 4:47 PM> > > > > My son Cole has his 1st MRI scheduled for a week from wed. Jenn,

Arent you SO glad its over?? I am very happy you got to get both head and spine done at the same time. Its really very important. Our son would not have been dx with chiari I malformation without the head being done as well as the spine.

Im sure your results will come back totally normal. Did they say when you will get them?

We got our MRI today things went pretty good. They did the brain and spine. Cole did completely freak out when he going into his room to change into his gown. We ended up needing to give him son Versed to relax him so it wouldn't be too stressful for him. I had warned the hospital that may be a problem after I took Cole to my doctors the other day and he got very anxious when he saw the exam table. Overall the MRI went smoothly and now we are just waiting for the results. Does anyone else's child experience that level of extreme anxiety with the hospital now? What do you do?Thanks,Jenn Mommy to Cole, 19 months, 2nd cast from Rochester, 23 degrees down from 47> > > > > > From: genericallyloud <jennifer.leggett@ gmail.com>> > Subject: [infantile_scoliosi s]

Hi Jenn... YES always. Hayden is going to be 3 in November and he still gets extremely anxious at Hospitals and Drs. Actually regular Dr's offices he is doing better, but anytime we go to ish Rite or Children's, he knows and he freaks out. Especially when they put that gown on him. I have been letting him play with Dr kits and doing exams on himself, me, my daughter, the dog etc. This seemed to help with his Dr office anxiety but anytime he has to have a procedure (MRI, Surgery, blood drawn etc) He pretty much FREAKS out. Now that he is a little older I try to reason with him and talk him down, but the only thing I can say is lots and lots of hugs and love which I am sure you do. And maybe some VERSED for you as well. LOL. Good luck with the MRI results. Let us know asap.

Joan,

The doctor kit is a GREAT idea!! I will have to get one for Isaiah when he gets a little older so maybe that will help to calm his fears. Thanks for the great tip!

It was my daughters kit because she used to get anxiety really bad as well so we just passed it along to Hayden and it seemed to have helped with regular dr visits. Thanks Joanmom to Hayden 2 1/246 degreesTreated at ish Rite Hospital Dallas, TX

Hi Jenn,

Wishing you good luck on those results! Noelle was very stressed, but at Rochester the child care specialist was very helpful and gave Noelle some toys to play with and put cartoons on for her. I always carry her in my arms to the OR and they put her to sleep as I hold her. I bring her favorite lovey and we take that right into the OR, too, and I just bring it with me when I leave. If it's really bad, they can still administer the VERSED, but this has really helped Noelle and it has gotten easier and easier every time we go.- Noelle's mommy, 2 1/2 years old and in 7th cast from Rochester NY, reflux, mild plagiocephaly, mild torticollos, hypotonia, ligament laxity, suspected Ehler's Danlos III

I guess I should have clarified I called the ortho he is not in either is his secretary and i called the ped and they said we will call you back and nothing! Then I called back and no one is there! I think sometimes they forget the anxiety waiting for these results puts on a family.
