I am putting this out there in hopes that someone may have some advice or

knowledge....

What should a parent do if their 18 mo. old just had his immunizations and

then immediately got a high, lasting fever. The parent does not believe in

any correlation between vaccinations and possible risk of acquired autism or

other neurological impairments. A friend looking out for a friend...

from what I have read, it sounds like a severe (allergic) reaction to

the immunization. I am guessing more then one was given? this makes it

difficult in finding out which caused the high fever. The doctor DOES need

to be notified, and this made a part of the child's medical records.

Jill,

Please make sure your friend does NOT suppress that fever, if it is

still high, unless it is 105 or above. NEVER give Tylenol!! If

anything is given it should be Motrin, but preferably let the fever do

its work. In addition, give megadoses of Vitamins A and C and also

some glycine and a good probiotic. I hope this reaches her in time!

I have to disagree with this, especially if your child has Febrile

seizures. Abby goes over 102 and she starts to get that glassy look

in her eye and get her over 103 and boom- Febrile Seizure. She had

one last week that lasted 40 minutes. Thank God that we were in the

peds office when it happened. She spiked the temp from the flu that

is going around. Motrin is a wonderful thing and without it Abby

would have continued for days having seizures. She spent a couple of

days in Childrens Hospital last week and has missed school this whole

week. This flu really wore her out. I always thought that 103 and up

was dangerous for anyone to have. Perhaps I read some info wrong. I

dont see the point in letting a temp go that high and running the

risk of a febrile seizure. They are scary to watch and horrible for a

child to go through. As a parent it is gut wretching to see your

child go limp and stop breathing and watch their little lips turn

blue and know that there is nothing you can do except try to keep the

airway clear till the paramedics show up.

That was actually a typo. I did mean to say 103. However my main point

is that people always rush to suppress fevers. Febrile seizures are

awful but we can't automatically assume a child will have one. 103 and

up is a good rule of thumb for fever suppression. I apologize for such

a significant typo. My main concern is the use of Tylenol, which

severely suppresses the immune system. As I suggested, Motrin is the

best choice if an antipyretic must be used. Most physicians recommend

Tylenol for vaccine reactions, even prophylactically. This is a very

dangerous practice and must be stopped.

Thank you very much for your reply. Unfortunately, the child remained lethargic

for the next 4 days and was then taken back to the ped. who said the child did

not have any reaction to the shots, but rather had an ear infect. and

bronchitis. He was then given antibiotics!!!!!!!!! The child appears to be

uncomfortable and irratable but the parents insist that he is " perfect " . These

are my friends and know what I deal with with my own child, but yet they wont

discuss it and insist their doc, who is rather old, has just plain common sense.

Says, he will be fine. I have terrible forebodding about this. Nothing I say

gets their attention. I just sit supportingly nearby.
