Guest guest
My son is 19 months and has been in his first cast for 5 weeks now. We decided (and our doctor agreed) to get the cast put on before the MRI because the hospital was going to take 2 months to get the MRI done and our son shows no signs of any other problems. Our son was at 46 degrees already so we did not want to put off the cast an extra 2 months. As for what life is like, it really is back to normal for us. Our son adapted very quickly , it only took about 3 days for him to be doing all the same things he was doing before his cast. We just tuck the diaper up under the cast. We actually found regular diapers were rubbing him and left a scab on his hip so we changed to pull ups and they work much better and we have not had that problem again. As for baths we just use a damp wash cloth and wipe him down and it is fine. We did shave his head pretty short to make washing his hair easier. Although the process is overwhelming in the beginning it does get easier. We feel that life is normal again and 99% of the time I don't even notice or remember he is in a cast! Hang in there things do get easier, Jenn Mommy to Cole, 19 months old, 1st cast for rochester, 17 degrees down from 46, 2nd cast on August 7th > > hi my name is sophie parkeri live in Lisburn Northern Ireland and i am a new member. i am hoping you will be able to give me some information in relation to scoliosis. my son jake who is now 14 months old was diagnosed with it before his first birthday his curve was 25 degrees. they waited 6 months and xrayed him again to discover that it had got to 35 degrees. we were told he would be getting a cast and would need an MRI scan but thats where then information ended. we have recieved no information on why how or what this cast would do? or why the scan was necessary. we are awaiting the appointment for both and i dont mind saying that i am not looking forward to it. or how it will impact our lives. jake is also developmentaly delayed and isnt walking yet. his joints are unusally flexible does anyone know if these are related to scoliosos? > > i would love to hear from anyone who could give us some info as we are finding it hard to deal with. on how to cope with life after the cast has been fitted, changing his nappy, washing him just the usual day to day things. looking forward to hearing from you. thanks. sophie. oxox >
