SAH is sit at home fitness. Now, I confess. I used the pdf from the files section here called sit.pdf. It's actually for the steel bow, so I modified some of the exercises. A bullworker X5 is the model of bullworker that was out before the newer iterations of steel bow, and the classic, which, IMO, are very fine pieces of equipment. The X5 had 2 nylon straps and a pulley type system, that allow for a greater range of motion, but it was uncomfortable to use. The handles weren't nearly as nice, with the exception that both ends moved, and there were grips that you could grasp like a pole, and do exercises that way. The newer models don't have the extra grips. The would limit the compression though, so you're better off. The steel bow when used with the sit at home fitness program allows you to change the spring to a lighter weight, and do greater compression, for a greater range of motion, and a nice pump. The X5 has about the same amount of resistance as the strongest spring on the steel bow, so the steel bow is just as good for isometric strength training, and the smaller size seems to work out better for a lot of people due to their stature, especially women. They simply get better sculpted with it. WHat I would really like to see is someone wake NASA up and have them send a couple of these puppies out to the ISS. The workout that you get agaqisn the spring in a weightless environment wouldn't change. It would be a most effective way to keep the people up there in good shape. They were looking for something. I imagine the astro/cosmo people probably do isometrics anyway, since their environment is drastically different. I have had my X5 since 2001. I used it to get in shape to work security. I lost 25 lbs with it and got pretty tight. THe first one I had, in 1984, I left overseas when I pcs'ed. I used to do it 5 days a week, along with a 3 mile run. They are extremely effective. Even better, the exercise physiology has advanced dramatically, making the training results even better without burning as much time. The original bullworker workout had like, 70 different exercises, and pretty low reps. Higher reps with this device is probably better, from the results I am seeing. Hope I cleared some things up. Have a good pump. 80 reps for my third training day, advancing to 90 3x a week. Curt
Guest guest
Thanks for such a detailed reply. I already saw that SAH meant sit at home. I will have to review those exercises and see what I can do with them. I have an old original (green handle) bullworker and I use it intermittantly. I have no real plan and mix it up a lot with home Calisthenics and occassional weights at the gym. I'm big on cardio. 30-45 minutes 5-7 days a week and my favorite is the Concept 2 rowing machine. I love this rower and wish I had one at home. Occassional alternate with elliptical, stationary bike with light dumbell upper body routine at the same time (another favorite of mine and I can do at home)and occassional LONG walks (with lightweight dumbells for upper body routine) I really want to incorporate more bullworker into my workout (and the reason for my visiting this forum). Can't find my original wall chart (although I know it's around here somewhere) but the newer charts seem to incorporate many more exercises to do with a bullworker.I'll have to look into SAH. (Too bad my local library doesn't have any videos)

(Too bad my local library doesn't have any videos) > As I said earlier, there are pdf files for it in the files section. I have done the old workout, and the new, and by far, even for the older equipment, the newer exercises are much more effective. To quote Atlas, the best way to train with this device is " Train, not Strain " . The reason for this is twofold. In muscle building, straining the muscles helps you to achieve hypertrophy, but the cost is torn muscles. Also, you are training the fast twitch muscles, which are more for speed than endurance. The Bullworker seems to target the slow twitch muscles a bit more, which fire aerobically, instead of anaerobically, which weight training targets. The second reason is lost training. You work out too hard with a device, and you will soon find yourself overtrained, which reduces any gains you might have from thinking more is better. The result is less results. As we get older, we need more recovery time, since our bodies experience muscle growth at rest, not at work. So, working out harder doesn't necessarily give you the results you think. You soon plateau, and have to cycle to start the process over. If you are going to use the bullworker to do you exerciese, my suggestion is to first incorporate isometric holds into your routine. Remember the Train, don't strain philosophy during this. You want to do your best to avoid that point where you are straining against the device to achieve that hold. It's easy to reduce the pressure on the device without changing position. Believe it or not, this is actually more effective than crunching it as hard as you can. Uaing this method, you'll find your compressions ramp up rapidly. And yet, you do not get sore, when doing this right. Given your workout, Iso=Motion would probably do wonders for you, by allowing you to move under tension. Again, Train, don't strain. There are videos on youtube when from Bullworker demonstrates this. You can use your bullworker for this stuff, and it will work. You probably won't see the same results as him without a steel bow though, because the shorter device seems to work at closer to natural angles for training purposes. In other words, the better range of motion and proper angles under load give you better results, at least for the upper body. I'd say the bullworker you have is better for back and leg work. At least, that is what I find with mine. Just like the trx, bowflex, total gym, and other equipment out there that stresses fluid movement over total resistance, the bullworker, when used properly, will give you surprising results. Good form is very important. Strength gains are phenominal, and coupled with a sensible resistance training program, like hardgainer, you will see dramatic results. Remember that BMI and body fat percentages are still important to your overall health as well. Focusing on gains that are hard to achieve are also going to be harder to keep. A realistic training goal is to train your body to the size it was meant to be, for the best and longest lasting results. Everyone has that magic number out there, and everyone is different. Strength and flexibility beat out hypertrophy hands down because of this. People who learned and applied these mothods stayed strong and in shape well into their golden years. It becomes a quality of life factor. Unsustainable gains might look good now, but later, as you weaken somewhat, and get tired of working out ( we all do ) your initial good gains will become troublesome to maintain. Not to mention the strain on your joints and stabilizer muscles. In summation, the bullworker is great for going the distance. Give it a chance, and let it do it's thing for you. I love it, and always have. Curt
