Guest guest
Not sure why you're waiting so long for medicines to clear your system. Unless you're paying for these tests out of pocket, ask your doctor for the following blood tests. Get the done again in a month if you're worried about the meds. Aldosterone, Cortisol, Renin Activity Level, and a Basic Metabolic Pannel. Have them test in the morning. > > Hello, My name is . I am 26 years old. My troubles started last year when I was pregnant with my youngest daughter. While pregnant my blood pressure started to climb. I was sent to the hospital 4 separate times before she was born and each time I recieved IV potassium. They induced me 3 weeks early. A week after she was born, I felt as though I was dying. Was hospitalized with blood pressure 240/140. OBGYN said she was calling it Eclaampsia because of the severe bp. Although she told me she did not believe thats what it was b\c I did not have protein in my urine. Fast forward a year and here I am, Feeling worse and worse every day. BP usually runs 150/100 but it fluctuates. I am feeling like a hypochondriac, and have got to the point where I wont tell anyone my symptoms because they are starting to think im crazy... about 2 months ago I began to feel very ill again. Went to doctor and asked to have potassium checked. It was low again. Down to 2.7 Took about 2 weeks to get that straightened out. Could this be due to Diuretic? Or something else since I have had it happen several times before without taking any medicine. (also before diuretics my K was 3.4) I constantly feel like my heart is going to beat out of my chest, dizziness, strange muscle aches, and sweating. Seeing an endocrinologist who gave me 24 hour urine test to check for Pheochromocytoma. Results came back negative. Waiting 3 weeks for meds to get out of my system so he can take blood to check for PA... Really hoping to find a soulution!! Also, Does Hydrochlorithiazide effect the blood serum test results? I remember reading that it did but my doctor insisted it doesnt. Thanks for any input. >
Guest guest
Was told the bp medicine I was on would effect the results, so he wanted me off of them for 3 weeks before testing. Also my appointment for this test is at 10:30 in the morning. Is that an acceptable time to draw blood? Heard aldosterone levels are highest early morning. > > > > Hello, My name is . Guest guest
Hi , HCTZ is known to cause low potassium but you should still get screened for hyperaldosteronism. I don't think you need to wait three weeks to get tested for aldosterone and renin - my doctor had me stop meds for only two weeks, and that was enough for my results to come back suggesting hyperaldosteronism. -msmith1928 Nulliparous female, 46, 5'3 " , 120 lbs, polymenorrhea, hyperinsulinemia, hereditary fructose intolerance, lactose intolerance, probable gluten intolerance. Guest guest
HCTZ is indeed the killer drug. It elevates bad lipids, reduces K, ...much worse as posted earlier. K=3.4 most likely due to high aldosterone or similar symptoms. Before tests or any doc visit at least you can drink/eat a lot of K contained fruits/beverages or even something like 60 mEq potassium pills until you get to a qualified doc + dx. Max. 62M L adenoma by NP59 scan. High aldos not low renin. med combo #76={Spiro=100, Amlo=10, Indap=2.5, Ramip=5, Metf=1000, Crest=20, Feno=67, K.Cl=120 mEq}{K=4.7}{not DASHing but low-salt diet} | Is this Hyperaldosteronism | |Hello, My name is .
