Guest guest
I just posted in case someone else was interested. I have one on the way (you know the mail system) that I got for $33 from Ebay. It's probably the same thing, an older version. It didn't say portable, though it did have a picture. I can't wait until it comes in. I just thought someone else might like to find one inexpensive. Guest guest
Thanks Lori: I wrote to find out what the dimensions of it are. The older ones are quite large. This sounds like the ancient one they use at the school with Andy. Joan
Guest guest
If you're interested in this language master, it's one of the older versions. Andy uses one at school. You hold down the button to record. It can record two tracks on each card. j > " Joan E. Guthrie Medlen " <jmedlen@...> >Subject: Re: language master > >Size: 9 x 12 x 5 inches. Guest guest
I saw that Language Master, too. I almost mentioned it to the list. I still have mine, and it kinda works, but it's in desperate need of cleaning. I keep bugging DH to clean it, but he says he wants to wait until we get stateside (I know, Hawaii is the states...) I may break it out today and clean it myself. I used to clean the recording equipment in the Navy, it can't be much different. I just have to remember how it goes back together when I take it apart.... I cleaned up my Language Master, made a few adjustments on the recording head, and it's up and running. Records great now (I already had the cards to run through it). Now, my question is for those who have one, how do you use it? And by that, I don't mean mechanically, I need suggestions. The only thing I could really think of would be to teach the give and take of conversation. This particular LM has an instructor track and a student track. So I could record an instruction or question and he could record his answer. Lori: We have used teh Language master in his classroom to administer the spelling test. In " teaching activity schedules to children with autism " they use it as a way for the child to cue themselves through the next step of the activity. It could also be used as a way to hear a reward when he knows he's done well. Other ways to use it would be reading sentences from a book that might be hard (much like the living books idea) or matching words to pictures and running it through the machine to see if he's right. Those are some of MY ideas.... j

" TEaching Activity Schedules to Children with Autism " is the approximate title (the second part is in question...) published by Woodbine House. It runs about $14.95. (www.woodbinehouse.com) I got a lot of good ideas from it and can see some independent learning that can happen once you have the system going. Joan whose email has been horrible...I KNEW you guys were talking,b ut I'm not getting it. My provider has had such troubles they were written up in the paper today.....
