Guest guest
Hi H, How in the world are you? We are fine and Cameorn is doing well. I just had to comment on your post re: OT/Speech and the rest. We recently had an OT say to us " We tried to work on writing but it's hard " Of course my first thought was " Ummm he has autism, these things are hard for him .. this we know ... now tell me how you are going to TEACH him! " Is he able to even hold a crayon? Can he scribble? Color inside lines? If not how in the world do you plan on teaching him to WRITE and also CUT on these lines he's " written " .. he can't run before he can walk. Cameron is still not able to play catch and when I asked the OT about this she responded " He showed no interest in ball play " .. so subsequently she did not write a goal for " ball play " . I wanted to say " He had no interest in eating either .. so it's a good thing we pursued teaching it or he'd be dead " . This is harsh I know but I do get so down right aggrevated with certain silly comments that I hear from certain individuals. I do think their input can be valuable .. but as you say giving squeezes etc are not my idea of teaching a child skills he needs to know unless you can prove to me that it makes the neurons fire faster, better etc. Take care! ann
