Guest guest
Mom was taken off her Aricept 9 weeks ago. For 3 weeks she rallied and was more communicative, got her eyes open. Then a rapid decline, with eating and drinking much less, so that the dietician was informed, uncommunicative, eyes closed once again, drooling, extremely low. I asked for a test for UTI to be done to rule that out as the cause, thankfully, as it turns out positive and antibiotics have been started. After only 2 doses, today she drank lots and ate better. I have not been able to bring myself to denying antibiotics for a UTI as part of the " do not prolong life but keep me in comfort " agreement we made years ago. I so hope I am doing the right thing for her. Thanks to this group, I knew to check out a UTI for quick decline, instead of attributing it to removal of Aricept. Thank you!!!!! I know I am prolonging life, but perhaps avoiding an extremely painful demise. Such a difficult end of life decision to make for a loved one, especially with whom you have made a pact. , Oakville Ont. Mom 92, 12 1/2 years " Parkinsons " 3 years ago LBD diagnosis, evident much longer in hindsight. Encouraged to give up her licence 6 years ago. Off Aricept since Feb./06-now eating and drinking less, uncommunicative
